Store Away and Store Up Treasures

by PamFord Davis
8/15/2019 / Devotionals

What are you setting aside for the future? Do you have a nest egg; IRA or pension plan? We can learn life lessons from hopeful young ladies. They hide away keepsakes; heirlooms and housekeeping essentials in hope chests. They expect to wed one day and begin preparations far in advance. Though practical, sentiment plays a part.

Often, cedar lined chests are passed down through generations. The hope chests are stored away in attics or closets until needed. Prospective brides play the waiting game with occasional openings of the locked chests. After marriage, the new brides remove treasures from their hope chests for use them in their new homes. Are you storing away treasures for heaven?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21 NASB).”

Your treasure, your heart, your hope…

“We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,  since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints; because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth (Colossians 1:3-6 NASB).”
