God Still Speaks

by Mark Nickles
1/07/2020 / Christian Living

Several years ago, a former president made reference to what he felt God was saying to him. Immediately, some in the media criticized him for what they considered presumption. In some way, it was considered outrageous that he should make the claim that God actually spoke to him. However, the truth is that God does communicate with individuals today, and, while God rarely speaks audibly, anyone who will pay attention can “hear” Him.

Today, God speaks primarily through His written word, the Bible. The Bible is a book like none other. Written by 40 authors, from three continents, over a period of 1,500 to 2,000 years, the books within possess a remarkable unity, as they point consistently to the arrival, death, burial, resurrection and future rule of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Without going into great detail, it is well known among archeologists and historians that there are more original manuscripts for the Bible in existence than for any other ancient literary work. What this means is that there is great evidence for trusting the events and teachings found within.

The Bible contains the creation account of all things, informs us that mankind is God’s special creation, and tells the story of how God the Father sent his Son to die for our sin, and open the door to Heaven for any who would trust and follow Him. Along with the teachings of Jesus, which agree with the teachings of the Old Testament, people today can hear directly from God about His love for them.

Within the context of a relationship with Jesus, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, God will also speak through prayer, circumstances, and other followers of Christ. However, the Bible will ALWAYS be God’s primary method of communicating His love and plan for the lives of His people. Would you like to hear from God about His love for you? You can, by giving your life to Jesus, and following Him!
