A God Who Does Great Things

by Mark Nickles
1/14/2020 / Christian Living

In March of 1748, John Newton, captain of a slave ship, was converted to Christianity during a huge storm at sea. He later became a clergyman and the author of the famous hymn, Amazing Grace.

In March of 1831, Evangelist Charles Finney concluded a six-month series of revival meetings in Rochester, New York. Often referred to as “the world’s greatest single revival campaign”, these events led to the closing of the town’s taverns, a two-thirds drop in crime, and somewhere in the area of 100,000 conversions.

In March of 1880, Commissioner George S. Railton and seven women arrived in New York City to establish the Salvation Army in the United States.

What’s my point, you ask? Am I implying that there is something special about the month of March? Not at all. However, I AM stating implicitly that there is something special about our God. He does great and mighty things through those who are committed to His kingdom and His ways. Yet, while we are all called, not everyone answers with the devotion and passion of the one who truly takes up their cross and follows Christ.

Do you wish to see great things happen in your town? In your county?  In your family?  At your workplace? If so, that starts with you. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” “These things” are the everyday things, such as food and clothing, which God already knows we need. The implication is amazing: God has said, “I’ll take care of those and the rest of your needs. You focus on the BIG things, the eternal things. Focus on ME.”

Today, know this: God has called you to a relationship with Him, through Jesus Christ. He intends for your life to possess joy, peace, power and purpose. He wants to do great things in you and through you. Will you let Him?
