GOD-TRACKING IS CONTINUING TO DO A GOOD JOB FOR HIS GLORY

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I’ve had the privilege to have been in Christian radio broadcasting for 26 years. It all started when I approached a station in South Africa in 1994 called Radio Pulpit for a part-time job, to supplement my income while I was studying for the ministry. I had no training or experience in radio at the time, but somebody spotted the potential. Yet, after a few weeks on-air, I was unsure whether I was making the grade or not. Then one day, as I was making my way to the music library, I was stopped by the company managing director, Victor Horn.

“Are you Dudley Anderson,” he said. “Yes, I am.”

“I’ve been listening to you and like what you’re doing,” said mister Horn, “keep it up.” The MD promptly turned on his heels and strode away down the corridor.

I stood mesmerised for a second or two. Did I hear right? Was that the MD complimenting me? Indeed, it was. My initial reaction was to press my chest out in pride. But then I heard the still small voice of the Holy Spirit whisper, “Don’t become proud, just believe him.”

To be complemented by a seasoned and senior expert, who knew what he was talking about, was the most practical event in my broadcasting career. When I heard these words, I had one of two options: 1) become big-headed and proud or 2) use the compliment positively to better my performance. If Victor Horn, who knew much about broadcasting, told me I was making the grade, then what I was doing must have been productive. Therefore, I simply believed him – he who knew what he was talking about – and continued doing what he said I was doing well. Then I took the compliment and put it on an imaginary shelf in the back of my mind. When the day came and I was criticised, or felt I was not doing a good job, I’d reach back there and retrieve the compliment and use it to encourage me again.

The Scripture tells us to do whatever our hands find to do, with all our might. Therein, is excellence. You may not be the best at what you do but if you are doing it will all your heart then you are operating in excellence. You see, God has not called you to be more than you are; he has called you to be all that you are. The Bible also tells us to do whatever we do in life, as unto Jesus and in his name. There is no place for self-indulgent pride in our hearts. It’s all to God’s glory! After all, it’s only by his grace that I do what I do in life. And grace is God’s doing.

God-tracking is continuing to do a good job, for his glory.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I surrender to your grace, that is, you working in and through me

“My Lord, thank you for all the opportunities you have given me. Thank you for my job, my relationships, my church and my pastimes. I confess that I do all I do for your glory and in the name of Jesus. I will work with all my might to the best of my ability. Every compliment I receive I will use practically to work harder and better. Help me not to become proud and conceited when I am complimented; help me to remember these compliments when I am criticised. I surrender to your grace, that is, you working in and through me. For your glory. Amen.”
