HOW TO WAIT ON GOD'S PROMISES

by Simon Tembo

WAITING ON GOD

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,  Christianity is all about faith, and faith is all about waiting, hoping for things not seen: that is to say without evidence but entirely depending on God (Hebrews 11:1). It is therefore cardinal to wait and depend on God in the right way without compromise. Isaiah 40:31 says "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint"

It's worth noting that the Christian journey is full of challenges, there are ups and downs which tends to discourage our faith in Christ. Most people usually think that things do not go to plan, they visualize others who have chosen their own way of life as successful. They believe that the world at large views them as people lacking a vision and without direction. My brothers and sisters take heart, God does not reason like a man, He has his own way of doing things.  (Isaiah 55:8)

Let's take a look at Abraham's life. It took Abraham patience for him to receive the promise (Hebrews 6:15, And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised)

To have faith is to wait patiently,  you are fully assured that no matter what happens God is in control. People may mock you but always remember you are relying on God who never disappoints. We wait, and we don't receive because we doubt, doubt is the number one enemy of waiting. In simple terms it's impossible to patiently wait on God when we doubt or when we partly believe. Unbelief makes one lose focus, seeking his own way. When you believe in God, you become responsible for your day-to-day actions and you learn to rely on Him for everything. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon reminds us of both trusting and acknowledging God in everything we do. (Proverbs 3:5. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:6. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight).

Brethren, we can not perfectly wait on God if we don't pray. Waiting needs communication.  When we pray we get the guidance, and he gives us the grace and strength that keeps us going without getting weary. God doesn't get moved by our tears but our actions, He hates people who complain and love people who pray.

Some people have a habit of doing things on their own without consulting God. When they do consult him they don't wait for His answer or direction. Such people only come back to him complaining when they fail. How do you complain to God on projects and assignments he didn't give you a go-ahead? Some people start things on their own because they are not patient enough to wait on God, this leads to failure, and if not properly handled, failure leads to disaster in the life of a Christian because it forces them to look for quick solutions which are usually dubious or unrighteous to God

There is no gain in complaining, the Christian life we chose demands we pray without ceasing. If we are to patiently wait on God we ought to exercise prayer in petitioning God, Thanksgiving and worship.
