Song and Dance Man

by PamFord Davis
4/27/2020 / Devotionals

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13a HCSB).”

My husband and I watch lots of old movies; most date back from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. Though, best known as a criminal; I prefer Jimmy Cagney’s musicals.  Music comes naturally to some. David strummed a harp.

“Saul sent to Jesse, saying, ‘Let David now stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.’  So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him (1 Samuel 16:22-23 NASB).”

David was anointed with the Spirit of the LORD...

David’s song… (See: 2 Samuel 22:1-51)

“And David spoke the words of this song to the Lord in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.  He said,

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;
My savior, You save me from violence.
‘I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies (2 Samuel 22:1-4 NASB).”

David, a song and dance man!

“And David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod.  So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouting and the sound of the trumpet (2 Samuel 6:14-15 NASB).”
