His Name Covers Mine

by Tonja Taylor
6/20/2020 / Salvation

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong.-- Proverbs 18:10, AMPC

12 And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.-- Acts 4:12, AMPC

I had just returned to my cubicle, on the 43rd floor of a large and growing telecommunications company, when a man who worked in the neighboring group on our floor stopped me.  He pointed at my name plate and barked, in his Muslim accent, "You cannot have two names! You cannot have two names!"

I had no relationship with this man; I did not even know his name. I realized that, like most of the engineers and others with whom I worked--one of whom spoke five languages fluently--he was probably brilliant and well-established like they were.

I was not an engineer, but served as a network planning analyst and support for them.  This man was not my supervisor nor even in my group, but for some reason seemed to think he could order me around.

His comment surprised me and I was slightly shocked at his attitude. But since the LORD had moved me there months earlier to this new city and the Spirit-filled churches there, He had been breaking me out of spiritual boxes and had graciously baptized me in the Holy Spirit.

I realized quickly that this must be a spiritual test. While I'd thought at first that the LORD had moved me, a single divorced mom with my 4-year-old daughter, to this city much larger than anywhere I'd lived to start a new life and a new career, I now understood the LORD's motives were deeper.

As I looked at the name, I knew I was right. For beside my name plate on the outside of the cubicle, I had also put a recently acquired plate with another name: JESUS.

"Oh, I see," I said calmly, as the offended co-worker glared at me. "Then I'll just do this..." As I spoke, I took the name of Jesus and put it on top, so that it completely covered mine.

I looked the man, and he had nothing to say.

Hallelujah, but of course!  The Word says God will help us know what to say: "For I will give you speech and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict."--Luke 21:15, Berean Study Bible

Praise the LORD for the Name of Jesus, His matchless Word, and His holy Blood that covers us!

It is my hope that my polite but unapologizing gesture impacted him, and that the LORD may have mercy on him and open his heart to receive Christ--the only Name that gets anyone into Heaven!

8 But what does it say? The Word (God’s message in Christ) is near you, on your lips and in your heart; that is, the Word (the message, the basis and object) of faith which we preach, 9 Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation. -- Romans 10:8-10, AMPC

22 Who is [such a] liar as he who denies that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah)? He is the antichrist (the antagonist of Christ), who habitually] denies and refuses to acknowledge the Father and the Son. 23 No one who [habitually] denies (disowns) the Son even has the Father. Whoever confesses (acknowledges and has) the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, keep in your hearts what you have heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the first dwells and remains in you, then you will dwell in the Son and in the Father [always]. -- I John 2:22-24, AMPC
