More Reasons to Fear the LORD

by Tonja Taylor
8/12/2020 / Christian Living

There are many reasons to fear (revere, honor, and worship) the LORD. He is worthy of all praise and honor and glory, forever!

One of those reasons is that walking in wisdom will bring riches and honor, wealth and prosperity to us. Wisdom will help us to attain the fullness of our inheritance in the LORD. These things are so much more than money, but they include the knowledge of how to acquire and manage abundant financial blessing—and the understanding that all resources belong to God Who gives them.

In Proverbs 8:17-21 , the LORD says:

17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, 21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

An additional reason to fear the LORD is to be, as the Amplified version of the Bible says, “happy, fortunate, and to be envied”--blessed.

When others see us living the truly abundant life Jesus died to give us, they will want what we have, and we can explain to them how to receive and follow Jesus to they can inherit eternal salvation and enjoy some of Heaven on earth!

So when we fear the LORD, it is a powerful tool in fulfilling the Great Commission to “go into all the earth and preach the Good News” (Matt. 28:18-20)!

32 “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.  33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. 34 Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. And a sixth reason (of innumerable more) is to walk in the favor of the LORD and fulfill the length of our days in freedom and peace and joy, which will not happen if we try to go our own small-minded way.  35 For those who find me find life and receive favor from the LORD.  36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.” --Prov. 8: 10-21,32-36, NIV

These are just a few things I’ve discovered about why we should fear God.

Please, use the wisdom God has given you to continue to fear Him and live His Word today, and enjoy more of the abundant life of Christ (John 10:10)!
