Eighth Way Out Of Marital Incompatibility

by Olawale Ogunsola

"Silence is the best answer for a fool."

The above quoted statement is popular, especially at a time when a rift is brewing between two or more persons. It is a true statement that had solved many disputes. It has nipped violence in the buds on many occasions. It can do same today ; and will do so as at when necessary.

Do you know that "silence" is not only an answer for a fool? It can be an answer, the best answer, for the wise and loved ones. Silence can be a cure for any form of incompatibility ; in one form or another.

Let me offer here a practical illustration to support this claim. In recent years, a grandpa and grandma were involved in a remarriage. They love each other very well maybe it was because their union was not preconceived but orchestrated by divine intervention, I cannot say. As much as they loved each other, there is an area where they are incompatible that can brew a permanent animosity which can halt their loving relationship.

Do not forget that any form of incompatibility can do this. What is their bone of contention? Table manners! How can this be, you may ask?

As it is a common thing with women, they are happy whenever their is food in the home to prepare and eat. Every man also is but it seems a man can tame or control it. As a creature that expresses feelings a woman will make it known. So it is with this grandma, according to her husband. A woman's verbal power is very strong anytime, any day and in any place. No man can match such a verbal power except a man who takes after his mother.

As a result of these, whenever they are at the table eating, the woman will always find or raise a point to discuss.

The man who understands himself told her that the only time he has to enjoy himself is when he is eating. He said he loves to eat in silence and in peace. So he hate any form of discussion when he is eating.

Contrarily, the woman said she cannot but talk during meal times, she enjoys her food happily discussing. What next? Two extremists!

According to the grandpa, he decided to make her happy by allowing her to do her talking. But he decided to keep his usual silence at table time. After all, everyone has his or her mouth and is free to open it at will. No problem. This man said that at table time sometimes he listens to radio news and this does not negatively affect his enjoying his meals. He said he did not see his wife as a radio but his being silent during news on radio and television can be employed to maintain peace in the home. Do you know what? This grandma wiil not eat except the man eats at same time with her. If he says, "I am not ready to eat," the woman will wait UNTIL he is ready.

It was silence that helped to solve this trivial but delicate matter to keep the peace. This is possible because they are both in love in deed. No hyprocricy or pretence.

Do you know that separation is another way to solve this? What do I mean? If not for the insistence of the woman, they can eat their food separately. One, if they must eat at the same table, it can be done at different times. Else, the man can eat his food in the sitting room while the woman do so at the dinning place or any other place convenient for her. It can be done in the vice versal. Note that Love is the watchord. It is the foundation.

No way will work where there is deception or insincere love. But any simple solution will work out for peace to reign in any home. It is worthy of note that both parties have prominent roles to play to keep a home together but a woman has more to do with wisdom and understanding, read Proverbs 14:1:and Proverbs 31:10 to the end. You will not regret it.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
