The Undeniable Love of God

by Mark Nickles
10/13/2020 / Devotionals

The Bible says much about the love of God. Indeed, 1 John 4:8 tells us that God IS love. Jeremiah 29:11-14 is one of the best passages for realizing God’s active love and compassion toward those who devote themselves to Him.

Verse 11 contains God’s desire to have responsibility for His people’s welfare. He says, “I know the plans I have for you…, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s desire is not that His children have a boring, hum-drum life with no excitement or fervency. He actually has a plan to fill our lives with hope, peace, joy, power and more!

Verses 12 and 13 tell us what happens when God’s people commit to regular prayer: He responds. Those verses read, “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” God desires to hear from us, and to answer our prayers. The original language indicates that a change comes upon those who devote themselves to regular prayer; He gives them an INCREASING desire to speak to Him; they seek Him with their whole heart.

Verse 14 reminds us of one of the most comforting roles of God, and one I believe He delights in: that of our deliverer. Verse 14 reads, “I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.” This passage was written to the Jews, whom God freed from Babylonian captivity 70 years later. However, He STILL rescues those who trust completely in Him. He rescues them from the eternal consequences of sin. He rescues them from depression. He rescues them from addiction, hate, illness and many other forms of bondage. He truly is the Great Deliverer!

God’s love is evident for all to see. And anyone can experience it. All you must do is confess your sins, believe in Jesus as your Savior and Lord, and commit your life to Him. In this way, you will experience God’s love to the fullest!
