Reflect on God's Goodness

by Susan Ferguson
11/26/2020 / Devotionals

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

2 Worship the Lord with gladness;

   come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the Lord is God.

   It is he who made us, and we are his;

   we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving

   and his courts with praise;

   give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

   his faithfulness continues through all generations (Psalm 100 NIV).

Psalm 100 invites us to come into God’s presence with joyful singing and thanksgiving. One of the Bible’s best-known thanksgiving psalms, it teaches us to praise God and acknowledge His goodness. Praise and thanksgiving can bring us closer to God, strengthen us, and get us through the hard times. But the truth is, it is not always easy to praise God during difficult times, and it can be much easier to complain. We have a choice, and when we choose to praise Him, joy and peace will follow. No matter what we are facing, God deserves our praise. The Father created us and loved us long before we ever loved Him. Therefore, let us turn our attention away from the cares of this world and exalt Him.

Heavenly Father, we pause to reflect on Your goodness and praise You for who You are. You are holy, just, wise, and we are thankful for your unchanging nature. You are a God of love who knows us better than anyone else yet loves us more. You are a forgiving God who does not hold our sins against us. You are merciful, patient, compassionate; despite our failures, You have been faithful and good to us. We are most thankful for our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son; through His life on earth, we see a living image of who You are (Colossians 1:15). You are a great God and so worthy of all honor and praise! Amen.
