Weeping May Last for the Night

by Ken Barnes
12/27/2020 / Christian Living

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
(Psalms 30:5 NLT)

2020 has been a year to remember, or for many to forget.  You hear on the lips of many; I can’t wait to get through this one.  A global pandemic has us locked in our homes.  Political, racial, and social divisions are tearing our nation apart.  We are in a dark period in our nation and many others, yet, in Christ, joy always comes in the morning.

Much has been said in recent decades in the Body of Christ about health and wealth.  A much more Biblical description of God’s favor is a covenant of grace.  Health and wealth can be elusive in this life, even for Christians, but God’s faithfulness never wanes.  I can’t tell you what we will experience in 2021, but I can tell you that God has promised us that he will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  His presence is our greatest possession.

God broke the mold when he made Sir Winston Church.  Churchill planned his own funeral.  When the clergyman had given the benediction, a trumpet rang out on the far side of that great cathedral playing taps.  When the last note of taps went silent, immediately the crowd heard another bugler on the opposite side of the cathedral playing reveille.  In Christ, when we say goodnight on this earth, we will say good morning in heaven.  This is our great hope. There are no words that can describe the joy that we will experience on that heavenly morning.

Weeping may last for the night in 2021, but God’s presence in the morning brings everlasting joy.
