Let It Go!

It's so good to be free!

It was a journey, often painful and frustrating--but so worth it!

It is something else how the enemy can pile on and pile on and pile on junk in our lives, and yet, once we become born again by our faith in the LORD Jesus Christ (John 3:15-17), we have the power to break free of the junk!

However, the first step is recognizing the junk!

This is where "the washing of the water" of the Word comes in:

12 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].                                                                              -- Romans 12:1-2, AMPC

God thinks differently than the world, which means differently than most of the 7 billion people in the world--and, as has been recently proven in the presedential election, even than much of the group who call themselves Christians.

If we want what God sent Jesus His Son to die to give us, we must understand how God thinks, and align our thoughts--and thus our lives--with Him.

He knows all things. He loves us far beyond our full comprehension of that love. He is the LORD, and He changes not, or we would have been destroyed long ago! He is for us and not against us; He is against sin and whatever would hurt His children. He is good and all good, and His plans for us are good and only good. He is the Light in the world, and His mercy endures forever!

He is the Spirit of Grace, and the only way we can truly forgive others for the wrongs and hurts they have done to us. We can only forgive and release all bitterness, and actually learn to love and pray for others by His grace!

33 And when they came to the place which is called The Skull [Latin: Calvary; Hebrew: Golgotha], there they crucified Him, and [along with] the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. 34 And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them. -- Luke 23:33,34, AMPC

I have had many challenges with unforgiveness and bitterness to overcome in my 50-something years, but I'm so thankful that the LORD, through His grace, has truly helped me be free.

Many times, He's had me apologize to someone who had hurt me deeply. I mean, like, having me apologize first to them--and sometimes even when I could think of nothing I had ever done to them! It was hard. But, when He gave me grace (and sometimes it took weeks or months for me to obey, although the time has gotten much shorter as I've proved His faithfulness when I obeyed to do such, even though my flesh didn't like it and I didn't understand it!), and I did it, it always brought healing and increased my faith in Him and my confidence in the fact that, when I obey, positive things happen.

Sometimes, the people to whom I was apologizing seemed baffled, but they always accepted my apology. These were almost always people in the church (WARNING: People in church often have as many problems as people in the world, but at least some of them are in church to work on overcoming their problems! I have to give them that credit. The LORD has helped me remember, more and more, that I am not the judge--and that's a good thing! Great is His faithfulness, mercy, and patience toward us all!), which makes it even harder; we want our fellow Christians or church family to be perfect!

That includes the pastors and other leaders.

Anyway, it's our job to pray for them all, and do a daily self-evaluation of ourselves to see where we need to wash ourselves more with the water of the Word.

If you're still reading this, let me give you one more very powerful way to put a physical demonstration of forgiveness in your life. I learned it from a minister at her conference a couple of years ago, and I have personally used it in a private time of confession and healing between me and the LORD.

Think of one person (not a group, and not more than one) whom you believe the LORD has shown you that you need to forgive or otherwise release and start walking in more love towards.  Now, take a full water bottle (plastic) and hold it in your hand. (You can even put dirt or other junk in the water.)

Put on some worship music, instrumental music (Preferably Christian), or teaching or preaching of the Word to play while you do this.

Invite the LORD your Healer, Who died for you and cares deeply and eternally for you, to be with you and help you to truly forgive. He will help you!

Extend your arm as far as you can, straight out from your body. This will represent the hurt/unforgiveness/bitterness, etc. that you have against someone. Now, either close your eyes, or focus in your mind on the hurt and allow yourself to feel it. You can replay the hurt(s) in your mind. Picture the person who hurt you standing in front of you.

Now ask the LORD out loud to help you truly forgive and let it go. Then say, out loud, "(Name of person), when you did (whatever happened), you hurt me deeply. I have been very bitter/unforgiving/angry toward you and I have not been able to pray for you and walk in love as Jesus wants me to toward you.  I repent of all of that, in Jesus' Name.  But now, in the Name of Jesus, and with His help, I forgive you! I let it all go! I repent of unforgiveness and all the other negative emotions and thoughts toward you!"

Now, drop the bottle! It is a physical representation of you spiritually, mentallly, and emotionally "Letting it go"--dropping and becoming free of the junk!

You may even feel a "lifting" of yourself--spirit, soul, body, or all three! You may feel a surge of freedom and joy! If you don't, no worries, for what you did is a legal thin

Finally, say out loud, "Thank You, Jesus for helping me to truly forgive this person and let it go! I receive my healing and freedom! Now, please fill me afresh with Yourself and help me to walk in love toward them. Help me to see them only as You see them from now on, Sir. Thank You!"

Go for it! Don't worry about doing this "perfectly." Jesus is the only perfect One, and He will help you every step of the way to your new freedom!
