Why Did Jesus Christ Come To The World

by Ngozi Nwoke
1/22/2021 / Christian Living

Why would Jesus leave the comfort of heaven, where He was God, and come to earth, where He would be mocked and killed? This question when answered will cause you to appreciate the love of God for mankind. And an understanding of the answer will help you hold unto your salvation in Christ. So, in this post, we will look at why Jesus came to the earth.

Jesus Came Into This World To:

1. Demonstrate God's Love

One major reason why Jesus came into this world was for God to demonstrate His love for us. Such that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. For, He gave His Son Jesus that whoever will believe in Christ will not perish but have everlasting life.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

- Romans 5:8 (NKJV).

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

- John 3:16 (NKJV).

The state of the fallen man, full of shame and reproach, wasn't pleasing to God. For it was contrary to what He purposed for man. For His plan was for man to subdue the earth and have dominion over all He created. Unfortunately, when Adam disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit, this plan was thwarted. And the devil took the original place of man on earth, subduing and having dominion on earth.

However, the Lord's love for man would not allow Him to leave man in a defeated state. And this is why He sent Jesus to restore man back to his original state of authority. However, man can only receive this when he reconnects to God through Christ Jesus.

Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

- 2 Corinthians 5:18 (NKJV).

2. Do The Will Of God And Fulfill The Old Testament

All through the Old Testament, the prophets prophesied about the coming of Christ: His birth, why He was to come, and what will be done to him. And all these were the will of the Father, which He spoke about through the prophets. Therefore, Jesus came to fulfill the law and in the process do the will of His Father.

Then I said, 'Behold, I have come- In the volume of the book it is written of Me- To do Your will, O God.'

- Hebrews 10:7 .NKJV).

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

- Matthew 5:17-18 (NKJV).

Now, it is worth noting that if part of what the prophets said concerning Jesus happened, then whatever is remaining will also happen. And that includes Christ's second coming.

3. Shed His Precious Blood

According to the law, without the shedding of blood, there will be no remission of sin. So, to remit our sins, blood must be shed. However, the blood of animals couldn't do it. Rather, the sacrifices were yearly reminders of their sins. But God wanted to totally cancel the charges of sin against man. So, Christ's blood had to be shed as a permanent solution to the remission of sin. And He did it once and for all, never to go through it again. So, by this one time sacrifice, we are justified and saved from God's wrath.

And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

- Hebrews 9:22 (NKJV).

But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, for by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

- Hebrews 10:3-4, 12, 14 (NKJV).

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

- Romans 5:9 (NKJV).

4. Die On The Cross

Death on the cross was God's plan for Christ. This is because anyone who hangs on the cross is cursed. And Christ needed to redeem the world from all the curses of the law. So, Christ took our place on the cross, and all the curses that were supposed to be ours came on Him. And when He died and rose again, He redeemed us from them all. As such anyone who receives Christ receives redemption from all curses and blessings of Abraham.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

- Galatians 3:13-14 (NKJV).

Also, Christ nailed all the handwriting of ordinances against us (which were contrary to us) on the cross. So, all the demands that were legally in force but hostile to us, Christ removed from the way and nailed them on the cross. Therefore, don't allow any doctrine contrary to God's word to cage you in. Though these practices have a form of wisdom, they don't honour God.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.

- Colossians 2:14 (KJV).

If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were still living in the world, do you submit to rules and regulations, such as, "Do not handle [this], do not taste [that], do not [even] touch!"? (these things all perish with use)-in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men. These practices indeed have the appearance [that popularly passes as that] of wisdom in self-made religion and mock humility and severe treatment of the body (asceticism), but are of no value against sinful indulgence [because they do not honor God].

- Colossians 2:20-23 (AMP).

5. Call Sinners To Repentance

The scripture says that the wages of sin is death. So, for you to be free of this imminent wage of sin, you need to repent of your sins. And this was what Jesus came to do; to call sinners to repentance that they may have eternal life.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

- Romans 6:23 (NKJV).

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.

- Luke 5:32 (NKJV).

6. Save The World

The world is in gross darkness. And as the light, Christ came to save the world from this deep darkness. So that whoever believes in Him will not continue to live in darkness. For you will know the truth and the truth will make you free. For instance, when you know the truth that by the stripes of Jesus you were healed, sickness will leave you. This is because you will resist the sickness and it will flee from you.

For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.

- Isaiah 60:2 (NKJV).

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

- John 12:46-47 (NKJV).

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

- John 8:32 (NKJV).

7. Give Life In Abundance

Also, Christ came to give us life and to give it to us in abundance. Whereas, the devil came to steal. kill and destroy. Therefore, anything short of life in abundance is not the will of God for you. So, Christ came to give you, among other things, total health, success, and prosperity, etc., all in abundance.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

- John 10:10 (NKJV).

8. Carry Out The Good News Of Salvation

Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, came to preach the gospel, heal the broken-hearted. Also, He came to set the captives free, give sight to the blind, and set at Liberty those oppressed of the enemy. Therefore, He came to ensure you are totally saved from the bondage of the enemy. This includes both spiritual and physical bondage. And this salvation He will perfect in you as you receive His gospel.

The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

- Luke 4:18 (NKJV).

Conclusion

Jesus didn't enter this world for the fun of being a human being. Rather, He came on a mission, which He fulfilled to the last letter. Also, He didn't come to play, so we shouldn't play with the finished work of Christ. Therefore, receive Christ, His Word, and be made perfectly whole.
