Why Did Jesus Christ Come In The Flesh?

by Ngozi Nwoke
1/22/2021 / Christian Living

Why would God send His Son to earth as a normal human being to redeem mankind?  Couldn't God have used His power as the Creator of the universe to restore man to Himself? The answer is No. Christ's coming in the flesh is very significant and important to His mission on earth.

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,"

- Romans 8:3 (NKJV).

To fully deal with the issue of sin, which could not be dealt with through the law, God had to send His Son. He sent Him in the likeness of sinful flesh to permanently deal with sin.

The Word Was Made Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

- John 1:1-2, 14 (NKJV).

Christ was there from the beginning of creation. And at the appointed time, the Word came as a man into this world. He was God and man at the same time on earth. Unfortunately, this is what the deceivers and the spirit of the antichrist have refused to accept. Hence, they're saying that God didn't come in the flesh, and as such Christ is a lie. So, to them, what Jesus claimed to represent and stood for were all false. Therefore, anyone who denies the coming of Jesus in the flesh is not of the Spirit of God but of the antichrist.

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

- I John 4:2 (NKJV).

"For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

- 2 John 1:7 (NKJV).

WHY DID JESUS COME IN THE FLESH?

Must Be Born Of A Woman

In order for Christ to redeem man, He had to be born and live like a man. This is because God had given man the authority over the earth. Unfortunately, Adam sold out to the devil. And until man's tenure expires only a man has the legal right to take back that authority from the devil. And so, God prophesied from the very beginning to the serpent, that the seed of the woman, whom he had deceived, would bruise his head.

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.

- Genesis 3:15 (NKJV).

Also, Christ needed to identify with those, who for fear of death were all their lifetime in bondage, in order to deliver them. And He is to, through His death, destroy the devil who had the power of death to release them.

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

- Hebrews 2:14-15 (NKJV).

Needs Human Flesh To Live On Earth

Every creation has its body that enables it to live in its habitat. So, for you to live and operate on earth you must have flesh and blood. However, God is a Spirit and therefore cannot live and work on earth. This is why He lives and works through human beings. The same goes for the devil, he can only work through the people he possesses. Therefore, for Christ to adequately and effectively redeem man, He needed to come in the flesh.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.

- Hebrews 10:5 (NKJV).

To Be Our Worthy High Priest

A high priest is to identify with the people he's representing in order to stand before God on their behalf. So, Jesus had to identify with humans to stand in as our High Priest. As such, He went through all the temptations that we go through, and yet without sin. Therefore, He can sympathize with our weaknesses and represent us well before God.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

- Hebrews 4:14-15 (NKJV).

To Be An Example To The Saints

Jesu came into this world and lived on earth without sin, leaving us an example to follow. So, we have no excuses for the flesh not allowing us to obey and serve God. Now, Christ has proven that it is possible to walk on earth without committing any sin. And He made it easier in that with Christ you can do all things, including living a righteous life.

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"

- I Peter 2:21-22 (NKJV)

Conclusion

It was expedient that Christ came in the flesh. This qualified Him to have all the legal rights to live, operate on earth, and redeem man. Fortunately, the enemy was not aware of this wisdom of God. For had he known it, he wouldn't have crucified Jesus. Therefore, celebrate Christ's coming in the flesh for it is our victory over the enemy.
