ETERNALLY-MINDED

by linzy bruno

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ," (Philippians 3:20)

There are 3 principles to learn from this one short verse:

1). Our citizenship is in Heaven at the time of our death and we are afforded the privilege of looking forward to that glorious afterlife because of verses like these.

2). Believers get to wait with great anticipation for Christ, which clearly describes another sort of departure, one that includes Christ coming to take us to Heaven-- the Rapture.

3). This verse also illustrates that God would have us consider Heaven our home even while we are still living this mortal life.

Believers are wise to see this world as a temporary period of life where we embark in our training for our careers in Heaven.

Furthermore, believers who live with their focus on eternity, grow and thrive more readily in their Christian walk, have an easier time understanding prophecy and exude a more effective witness.

Another thing to keep in mind when learning to think eternally is to focus on the 'inner life' over the 'outer life.' Inasmuch as God is our Source for everything, as we read in Matthew 6:25-26--

Therefore I say to you,do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Through this new way of thinking (the Biblical worldview), over time, our natural way will ultimately be God's Way.

Therefore, when facing a worldly problem like meeting basic needs, rather than solely contend with all the many facets in the natural  pertaining to that particular dilemma; lend yourself to Scriptural teaching, and prayer. Through seeking God's Wisdom and the spiritual solution to your problem, you will find things work out not only better; God will open doors that never would have opened for you otherwise.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day." (2Corinthians 4:16)

Our inner man is being renewed day by day thanks to the Holy Spirit indwelling the believer, hence, this is a parallel concept to Matthew 6:25-26, in understanding this Principle: it's our inner life that matters----THE PART OF US THAT LIVES ETERNALLY.

Therefore, making our inner life our focus points us in the right direction to becoming eternally minded, a little more each day.......

Seeing the Invisible

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." (2Corinthians 4:16-18)
