The Important Reasons Why You Should Feed On The Word Of God

by Ngozi Nwoke

Now that you're saved, what next? Truly, it's one thing to get saved, and another thing to remain saved till the end. This means that once saved doesn't mean always saved. As such, there is a need for you to do whatever it takes to remain in the Lord till the end. And the first thing to do is to feed and feed on the word of God.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness - 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth - 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV).

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope - Romans 15:4 (NKJV).

Introduction

Every child must feed to be alive and grow; so also, a new believer needs to feed. Furthermore, as it's your spirit that is born again, the food of the spirit is the word of God. You need to feed on God's word to live and grow as a believing Christian. Therefore, for you not to die again spiritually and return to your old self, you need to pay attention to the word of God.

Why you should feed on the word

1. God's manual for profitable living

The word of God is the creator's manual to human beings living on earth. So, when you adhere to its instructions, you end up living a successful and victorious life. For it's profitable for instruction, the conviction of sin, correction, and training in right living in line with God's will. And as long as you obey and do what it says, you will not miss it in life

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness - 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV).

2. Your trusted guide

The word of God is the lamp that shows you where to put your next step and the light that shines ahead of you showing you what is ahead of you. Therefore, any time you obey the leading of the word, you will not stumble nor derail from your path. And as you study God's word and obey it you will not miss your path in life

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path - Psalms 119:105 (NKJV).

3. Builds your faith

As a Christian, you are to live by your faith, and without faith, you can't please God. And faith comes by hearing the word of God. Therefore, for you to succeed as a Christian, you need to grow your faith by hearing and doing what the word of God says.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God - Romans 10:17 (NKJV).

Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him

- Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV).

4. Gives you the inheritance

As a child of God, you have an inheritance with the Father. However, it's God's word that will reveal it, prepare you for it, and deliver it to you. For instance, it's the word that reveals to you that healing is children's bread, builds your faith to receive it, and causes you to get healed.

So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified - Acts 20:32 (NKJV).

5. Makes you more like God

Consistent studying of the word of the Lord makes you think, talk, and act the word. As such, you become more and more like the Word (Jesus Christ). The scripture says that iron sharpens iron, even so, does the word of God sharpen you to become more like it.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord - 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV).

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend - Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV).

Study to be approved of God

It's very important then, that you study the word of God to show yourself approved of God. Also, study to correctly teach the word of God and be a person who is never ashamed of the gospel of Christ. In addition, study to ensure that your light so shines, thereby attracting multitudes to your rising.

Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth."

- 2 Timothy 2:15 (AMP).

Conclusion

The word of God is the way forward. Therefore, having given your life to Christ, diligently ensure that you feed on God's word. This will establish and preserve you in the Lord. Also, your ways will prosper and break forth into new grounds. Furthermore, the scriptures were written for us to learn from and be empowered to hold onto our hope to the end. Truly, those who endure till the end will reap joy, peace, and ultimately life eternal with Christ.
