2 Quick Ideas to Help Struggling Readers

My husband, who was himself a band director for 15 years and who worked with preschoolers for 4 years, had some great ideas to help my ELA students:

(1) Let them bring their favorite book to share with the class

(2) Encourage them to read every day, not just the four days I teach them

Great ideas, my Beloved!

I told my sweet lower elementary students his suggestions today, and they were delighted! They are at home, receiving my tutoring online, so a couple of them immediately ran and got their books and started sharing. It was adorable.

However, I gently reminded them that today was Tuesday, and the share session would be Thursday. This will be their Blessing for the week, and I will also share (as they have asked) one of my books, which will include my daughter's art.

I love the way God works in these wonderful ways! This share time will be very helpful to them, to increase their understanding about titles, predictions, authors, illustrators, and other parts of a book, while also improving their fluency, comprehension, and presentation skills.

In addition, as I told my darling husband, this is a subtle but powerful seed we're planting in them about the unity of our marriage, and our love for them.

How awesome is our God--the perfect Teacher and Father of all!
