Beauty Of Criticism

by Olawale Ogunsola
4/28/2021 / Leadership

Two prominent words that start and end this title are two "strange bedmates", at least, to many. Why is this so? Criticism that is most popular in almost all nations are always negative and destructive. Then, what will you say is beautiful in what destroys? Beauty on its own is connected with splendour and attractiveness. Then what is the correlation between the two words?

A criticism can be beautiful even when it is (seems to be) negative and destructive. What do I mean? It depends on what or who is criticised. Any criticism of a destructive nature meant to destroy something or someone destructive is not only good but beautiful. If what will destroy, for instance, the peace of a society, is destroyed before it takes roots, it is beautiful!

In Mathematics, do not be scared, please, if you are not friendly with the subject. I will not frighten you with it ; afterall, I am not in any way a Mathematics expert. However, every man deals with maths in one way or the other. If you multiply a negative (-) by another negative, it gives a positive outcome. So, to stand up to criticise a negative and destructive proposal is beautiful. Nothing is comparable with peace of mind of every man and that of the society.

However, there are certain people who are beautiful in their criticism. In their society, they cannot tolerate any leadership decision that will not bring succour to the citizenry. They will pin-point the weak areas of any proposal, even when it is good and positive. They will also appreciate the benefits that it has to offer. One beautiful thing of their kind of criticism is that they will make available alternative suggestions to gray areas from their perspective, they believe if their suggestions are brought into the proposal, better results will be the outcome. Everyone connected with the proposal will benefit optimaly from it. The proponent, the critic and the society will laugh together. So, such criticism is beautiful. Or what are your thoughts on this?

It is sad that there are certain criticisms that emanate from ignorance. This type of criticism is a by-product of lack of information, insufficient information or wrong information. Many critics are in this position because they are not well versed in what they are criticising. They cannot see anything good in the object of criticism. So, they cannot carry out any proper analysis of the object on hand. In the same vein, because they can't make a head or tail of it, there is no positive suggestions to put forward.

This is also a beautiful criticism. What is beautiful in this?

For serious minds who are sincere in their motives to bring a better result to their society or human race at large, they will see such critics as a set of people they need to educate. Giving them right and adequate information will go a long way in changing their opinions and the grounds on which the ignorant Critics stand. This happens in every sphere of human endeavour. It happened in the days of Jesus Christ, our Lord and the only Saviour of the whole world using the account of Apostle Mark as our guide, the records say,
"Why was this fragrant oil wasted? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticised her sharply." Mark 14:4-5.

This was the anointing on Jesus Christ at Bethany by a woman. What was Jesus response to the sharp criticism of the ignorant disciples? He said,
" Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.
For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good : but Me you do not have always. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial" Mark 14:6-8.

Having been properly educated by their Master, Jesus Christ, the disciples who were sharp critics of the woman kept quiet and agreed with Him.

My beloved reader, what are you sharply criticising ignorantly? Look for ways to get information that will clear away your doubts and ignorance. This will prevent you from becoming a nuisance to your society. Knowledge is power.

Can you see that there can be beauty in criticism? If it afforded Jesus Christ the opportunity to educate His followers, it can achieve the same result today.

Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is imminent! God bless you.
