Some Thoughts on Faith, Righteousness, and Authority

by Tonja Taylor

Dr. Kenneth Hagin, in The Believer's Authority (38), reiterates what the LORD Jesus spoke to him when He visited him:  "The least member of the Body of Christ has just as much power over the devil as anyone else; and unless believers so something about the devil, nothing will be done in a lot of areas."

As Apostle Tracy Harris of Harvest International Ministries says, many of us Believers have been calling "normal" what the LORD calls a curse. But as we study the Word and learn more about our identity in Christ--that, by faith, we know we are righteous and have His delegated authority--we realize there are many things we can change, to bring Heaven to earth (Deut. 28:1-14); His intent from the beginning (Genesis 1)!

One example of bringing more Heaven to earth was when I was sitting outside on a lovely day, happily reading my Bible. Then my sweet meditation was interrupted by the enemy, who was cursing loudly and disgustingly through several men, standing in a yard several houses down the street.

That is not right! I thought, with righteous anger rising up in me. I don’t want to hear that mess, and there are many children in this neighborhood! But it is right for me to read my Bible in a peaceful habitation!

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles.--Psalm 34:17, AMPC

In the past condemnation would tell me that I was deserving junk in my life. But the Word says in John 15:3, AMPC, "You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word which I have given you [the teachings I have discussed with you]."

I know I'm nothing in myself and can do nothing by myself, and I tell God that often. However, as I also tell Him, I know I can do all things through Christ Who gives me strength (Phil. 4:13), Who is my life (Colossians 3:4!

I knew that, as a blood-bought daughter of God, I could do this. By my faith in the LORD Jesus Christ and what His blood did for me on the cross, I knew I had the authority to change this situation. The cursing in the neighborhood was not right--but I was!

First, I had faith that my Father loved me and would hear and answer; that He is faithful to His Word. I knew that it was right that He hear and answer. I knew that, just like I would not want my daughter to put up with bullies--and had counseled her more than once about how to put them in check--I knew I had the authority to change this situation.

I rebuked and took authority over the demonic forces behind that mess, in the Name of Jesus--Whose all-powerful Name I have the right to use, as a blood-bought daughter of God, by my faith in what Christ did on the cross!

Then I started praying loudly and singing loudly in the Spirit.  After all, I thought, rejoicing, I am a daughter of God, and redeemed from noisome pestilence (Psalm 91)! The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1)

As I was receiving revelation from Apostle Tracy about being one with The Name of Jesus, The LORD reminded me that I have served in various positions of leadership through the years, and  represented many corporations and other organizations. I had faith in what the leaders who sent me said: that I was right with them; that I was their favored representative, and thus had authority on their behalf to make decisions, perform transactions, and receive supplies.  When I signed my name, it was as if the head of the organization had signed his.

As Apostle Tracy Harris stated in a teaching for the School of HIM, we who have received Christ Jesus have the authority of the King and His name, for we are righteous--right with Him--by our faith in the Blood.

HALLELUJAH!

So the victorious Christian must know, receive, and walk in all three: faith; righteousness; and authority.

Without faith--belief in God--there is no righteousness.

Without righteousness, there is no authority.

Without authority, the enemy would wreak havoc in our lives. We only need authority because there is a devil.

Through the shed Blood of Christ Jesus the LORD, we have all three--faith, righteousness, and authority! Hallelujah!

So we rest and rejoice in these unchanging truths! We trust (faith) that we are right by our belief in what the blood of Christ did for us; that alone makes us righteous (righteousness), and because we trust that we are righteous, we know we have the right to change things with our right words and actions (authority).

Hallelujah!

By faith, knowing we are right, we exercise our authority--with our words. This is performed with the written word, especially the living Word of God, but mainly performed with the spoken word--the way God created the world.

As Apostle Harris also stated, the LORD created the world with His words, by faith. That is the same way we create and change our worlds--by listening to and heeding the Holy Spirit within us, and agreeing with Him as we speak God-breathed words.

We do this by faith, knowing we are righteous, taking authority over every part of our lives--and others', as the LORD leads and reveals to us the level of authority we have concerning these--in the all-powerful Name of Jesus, the Resurrected One!

When we receive Christ Jesus as Savior and LORD, we become one with The Name--the Name that is above all. I have a Covenant of Blood, and when I use that Name by faith as led by the Spirit of God, then it is just as if Jesus Himself were speaking--because He is!

As the LORD created the world with His Word, so He creates through us with His Word, and other God-inspired words that we choose to speak, as we partner with Him! Our words can create our worlds!

"For the word of a king is authority and power, and who can say to him, What are you doing?"--Ecclesiastes 8:4

Knowing we are right with God pertains to the "small" things as well as the "big" things. For instance, when the rear window of my almost-20-year-old car would not roll back up--as I returned from church on a cold December day--I put my foot down. "That's it!" I said, out loud. "It's right that I have a better car! Car, make yourself known!"

I had been waiting on the LORD for the past few months, thanking and praising Him for my new vehicle. My husband and I were in agreement that it was time. So at that moment, I simultaneously exercised my righteousness, my authority, and my faith. It took three days of searching, in many cities, but when I saw it, I knew it was right. And it was and has been!

Another example concerns my daughter. When Victoria was 11 or so (about 12 years ago!)  she'd earned tickets to Six Flags and was on her first kiddle roller coaster. She got scared (and we were only about 5 feet off the ground! I told her, "You have a choice; you can choose to be scared, or choose to be brave, and enjoy yourself!"

It was right for her to enjoy the blessing of the trip, but she had to have faith, and exercise her authority over the demonic spirit of fear. I could encourage her, but I could not do it for her.

Praise the LORD, she released her faith and decided to not be afraid; she had a wonderful time from that moment on!

Now I'm also reminded that, although I'd said for years that "I'm scared of flying," all that changed when, in college through a business organization, I won a free trip to Disneyworld! I decided to not be afraid, because my desire overtook the fear! I laid down the fear and started anticipating the trip. It's a good thing, too, because I had three plane rides there and three back!

That reminds me of another excellent motto, spoken by a wise preacher during a semon in December 2002: "Real faith is real movement into the unknown."

These are earthly examples of many ways that, because I knew God loved me, has given me new birth, and made me righteous, I have walked in faith (or helped others to do so) to be bold and ask for what I knew was right for me to have.  Many times, that has come in the form of verbal declarations, as the faith and righteousness and authority rose up in me.

Often, the LORD has stirred these in me to intercede for others. It is His Spirit that leads us into all Truth. When, by faith, we know we are righteous and have the authority He has given us. He is the teacher, the evangelist, the preacher, the Intercessor that gives us the Spirit-breathed words to speak (Matthew 28:18-20)!

When we know God loves us--even if our souls waver in that--then we can pray with boldness. He is the Ultimate Intercessor, Who strengthens us within our spirits to fight for what is right--for ourselves and others (Ephesians 3:16-19)! It is His Spirit partnering with us to pray God's will into the earth (Hebrews 7:25)!

God has never disappointed me (Psalm 25:1-2), although He has rearranged things in ways other than I thought--but always for my good, because He loves me. I trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). Great is His faithfulness and goodness, forever!

Even though my soul has wavered in many ways through the years, been in conflict because of (past!) sin-consciousness, and not fully understood faith, righteousness, and authority, the Spirit of God within me--Who is faith, righteousness, and authority!--has risen up within me and changed circumstances with my words and will.

Hallelujah!

Our God is always working and helping us; the Perfect Father, Who is the Sovereign LORD and Who is Love (I John 4:8), continuously influences our hearts and arranges circumstances for our best and His glory (Genesis 50:20).

Hallelujah!

It is His Spirit that is our life (John 6:63 and John 10:10)--and all the more abundant, as we learn and follow His excellent ways--by faith, in righteousness, walking in authority with HIM!
