Old-Timers

by PamFord Davis
6/04/2021 / Devotionals

Listen to the old-timers.

They have stories to tell; stories we need to hear.

“Remember the days of old,
Consider the years of many generations.
Ask your father, and he will show you;
Your elders, and they will tell you (Deuteronomy 32:7 NKJV).”

Moses spoke to his people. Their ancestors had rebelled against God’s commands. Yet, in His mercy and love He had kept His promises. Stories of the Lord’s faithfulness had been passed down to the elders from generation to generation.

Are there old-timers in your church?

Likely, there are. They still have much to contribute to your congregation. Many are prayer warriors and remain the most faithful to worship services. Would they like to tell you stories about the good old days? Many would; they’d tell you about two-week revivals, packed pews, mourner’s benches and dinner on the grounds.

God bless us again with that old time religion!

Refrain:
Give me that old time religion,
Give me that old time religion,
Give me that old time religion,
It's good enough for me.

It was good for Paul and Silas,
It was good for Paul and Silas,
It was good for Paul and Silas,
It's good enough for me. [Refrain]

It was good for the Hebrew children,
It was good for the Hebrew children,
It was good for the Hebrew children,
It's good enough for me. [Refrain]

It was good for our mothers,
It was good for our mothers,
It was good for our mothers,
It's good enough for me. [Refrain]

Makes me love ev'rybody,
Makes me love ev'rybody,
Makes me love ev'rybody,
It's good enough for me. [Refrain]
