Reconciliation

by PamFord Davis

Trash it.

Just throw it away.

Repair shops are as outdated as last year’s cell phones. In most cases, it’s more costly to repair items than to replace them. I do know of a shoe repair shop but it’s a rare exception to the rule. We once believed that things were built to last; if cared for, they would be useful for a long time. Today, we’re surprised if our purchases do. How long do relationships last?

Sadly, many relationships fall apart. The disappointed and disillusioned cast marriages and friendships aside. Judges once sought reconciliation of couples filing for legal separations or divorce. Now, divorce court is a revolving door industry. Reality TV brings the trashed relationships into our living rooms. What happened to reconciliation?

Christ's redeeming love has reconciled us to the Father.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:17-20 KJV).”

Yes, we must be reconciled to God. Reconciliation with others is possible.

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men (Romans 12:18 KJV).”
