Departure Without Being Desired

by Olawale Ogunsola

"When it goeth well with the righteous, the ccity rejoice : and when the wicked perish, there is shouting." Proverbs 11:10. In the quoted verse of the Holy Bible above, there are two types of persons mentioned. These persons are the righteous and the wicked. Do you know that these two people exist not only on the pages of the Holy Bible but also the record of what happens to each of them on this earth. The same verse mentions two events that happens to each of them. These are: 1. Being well with the righteous. This is good things happening to the righteous and all that concern him. This is the righteous having prosperous experience in every ramification. 2. The other event is about destruction of the wicked one. That is when the wicked suffer a serious loss, including that of his life. That is when the wicked or what belong to him cease to exist. This is when a serious calamity falls on him. There is a very serious third part of the verse which calls for a special attention and comment. Not only these two, it calls for self-examination and taking the right action. What is this important part? This part concerns the response of the people to the different events that occurred to the different people in the content. Although there is no specific mention of the words "people" or "persons" but by implication, they are mentioned. How? It is those people who reside in a city that can rejoice at the good event that happens to the righteous. In the same vein. It is persons that can shout when the wicked perish so in either way human beings are involved. The two responses are different, one is good for the good while the other is bad for the wicked. Can you see that each was treated by his deeds? Now to the third part that calls for our action, human responses. Do you know that you can know your worth in your society by how people respond to whatever happens to you, good or bad? People's mood on what you experience says a lot about you. For instance, whether you are a boss or not in your working place, how do or will people response if you are transfered to another station or branch? You can aseses yourself sincerely to know whether or not you are desired by the people with whom you relate in your place of work. There are instances of loving and caring bosses whose transfer cause weeping to his subordinates and other colleagues who could not weep but wore moody looks. In the same way, there are certain bosses whose transfer brought joy and jubilation to all who surround them. They are happy because a "tenure of tyranny" has come to an end. Are you the only person who will rejoice if something good happens to you? Then you have a problem with your community if they cannot rejoice with you. In a simple language, are you righteous or wicked? With a serious thought on what you have read here, you should be able to hold a meeting with yourself to carry out a thorough review of your whole life. After this, you need to amend your ways. Don't say that if you are in favor with God, that is the end of the road. No! Read this about Prophet Samuel of Eli's days in I Sam 2:26, "And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the Lord, and also with men." You can confirm the same about Jesus Christ in Luke 2:40. Every righteous man is always in favor with the Lord and fellow men. In other words, his service satisfies both God and men. Note the arrangement: It is God first and men follows. Do all within your means to satisfy your God and fellow men. There is a record about a king in 2 Chronicles 21. His name was king Jehoram. He was a king who reigned in Judah. At the point of his leaving this world the records of his reads, "... he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulcres of the kings" verse 20. How do you want your end to be? Do you want to depart your present place or this world without being desired? It is left to you. NOTE FOR SALVATION "The father loves the Son and has put everything into his hands. And anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn't obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remain under God's angry judgment" John 3:35-36 Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
