Princess Pearl, P.O.W.E.R. Girl, Book Two - Ch. 6 - Coming Home

Vivace barked and pranced around excitedly as they entered Pearl's bedroom. "Sit, girl. This is Xi, and she's living with us now!" The dog sniffed      Xi's feet, then went to her bed in the corner.
     "Vi-what?" said Xi.
"Vih-VAH-chee," Pearl said slowly. "Queen Mother says it's Italian
and means 'lively.' And she is!"
"You got that right," said Xi.
"Here," said Pearl, pointing to the other bed. "That's your bed now. It's comfy! And your fish will be happy here."

"Maybe!" said Xi, looking around. "I could use a week-long nap!" She put the bowl on the stand, and threw her backpack on the bed.
"That's a good place for him, so you can see him, and he can see you."
"What am I gonna feed him?"
"No worries. Queen Mother says fish don't really have to eat every day, and we'll get some."
"Thanks--I think," said Xi. "Is it OK if I use the bathroom?"
"Sure!" said Pearl. "It's right across the hall."
Xi returned, and said, "It feels so good to wash my hands. The soap smells good, too. And wow, everything is clean--and blue!"
Pearl giggled. "Not everything! But I figure if blue is God's favorite color, then it should be mine!"
Vivace barked as if in agreement, jumped up, and danced around their feet.
Xi reached down to pet her. "God's favorite color? How can you know that?"
"Sit, Vivace!" Pearl said, pointing to the dog bed. "I know you're excited, but sit!" The dog obeyed, and Pearl continued. "I just know God’s favorite color is blue!”
     “Blue?” said Xi. “Why?”
“It’s gotta be His favorite," Pearl said, "'cause He started with blue when He decorated the temple, and even spoke it as the first color in the clothes the priests wore. Besides, the whole sky is blue!”
     Xi just looked at her.
Pearl smiled. “The temple and priest stuff is in the Bible—Exodus!”
“Exodus,” said Xi. “That sounds like a rock group!”
Vivace barked again, and Pearl walked over and picked her up. "Shhh, Viv! I'm trying to help Xi!" The little dog snuggled closer to her as she continued. "But Exodus is the second book of the Bible, where God gave the Ten Commandments. You know the Ten Commandments, right?”
Xi looked thoughtful. “I’m not sure. Is that God’s rules?”
“The main ones,” said Pearl. “Anyway, let’s look. Get your Bible and I’ll show you.”
Xi looked uncomfortable. “Uh, I’m not sure where it is. Mom wouldn't let me back in the house, anyway. Crazy woman!" She looked like she was going to cry again.
Help me help her, LORD! Pearl thought. “No worries,” she said, trying to sound light-hearted. "We have lots around here and you can use one till you find yours.” She got her Bible and flipped pages, almost to the front. “I think it’s chapter 25...no, it’s chapter 20. Let me read you a little bit, okay?”
“Sure,” said Xi, but she did not sound excited.
But I'm excited, thought Pearl. I get to read the Word to Xi! Help me do it right, LORD! “Okay,” Pearl said, “Do you want to read too?"
"Nah, I'll just listen." She picked up her backpack. "Say, my clothes are probably dirty, since they got thrown out in the yard and junk."
"Oh yeah, let's take them to the washer, ok? Then we can come back and I'll read the Ten Commandments to you. I bet you've heard them before, anyway."
She led Xi down to the utility room. "We'll wash these in the morning, 'cause it's late right now."
"Wow, this is about the size of my bedroom, I mean was," said Xi. "Thanks, but what am I going to wear? I need a shower. I don't wanna get your bed dirty."
"Xi, do you want a burger when Burt gets here?" asked Pearl's mother from the kitchen.
     "No ma'am.”
"Sweetie, if you eat something, you'll feel better, Dear. How long has it been since you ate?"
     "Lunch at school."
     "Do you like chocolate pudding?"
“Hers is yumalicious!" said Pearl. "It's cooked, and good hot or cold."
"Can I take a shower first?"
"Of course. Pearl, show her where the towels are, and get her one of my fluffy robes.”
     "But--" Xi looked confused again.
"Yes ma'am," said Pearl, then smiled at Xi. "Great idea!" She went to her mom's closet, and chose the fluffiest robe for Xi. Then she led her to the bathroom. "Take as long as you like. There’s bubble bath, and it smells so good! If we're asleep when you get out, you can help yourself to pudding, or anything else you want in the kitchen."
     "Really?"
     "Yes!"
"Thanks," Xi said, sounding amazed again. "You're sure no one else needs in here?"
"Nope!" Pearl said. "Uncle Burt has his own, and there's another we can use. Enjoy, and see you in the morning! I'll pray for you to have sweet dreams!"
"Yeah," Xi said, "beats nightmares any day. Ha!" She gave Pearl a half-smile and waved. "Thanks."
“G’night!” Thank You, LORD! Pearl thought, and felt happy inside. You are so good! You're always working. Please open Xi's heart-eyes to see You love her and she is safe with You.
