Princess Pearl, P.O.W.E.R. Girl! Book Two - Ch. 22 - I Think I Felt God!

Xi sighed and slumped into the big easy chair. "I'm just down, Princess. Heavy. Not like you. You are always up. How do you do that?"

She looked at Pearl with curious eyes. "This is weird, but I guess I need you to pray for me.”

A P.O.W.E.R. Princess is always ready to pray, Pearl heard in her heart. "Sure I will, my friend," said Pearl. "Just remember it's God the Holy Spirit praying through me, and not me."

"But you are the one talking, right?" said Xi. "I don't want nothing spooky!"

"You don't want anything spooky," Pearl said.

Xi rolled her eyes.

"Sorry, Xi,” Pearl said, and giggled. “Queen Mother corrects us when we don't talk right. I'm just trying to help."

Xi laughed, a little scornfully. "Well, I sure need a lot of help there too," she said. "And my mom always said she didn't wanna be around me when I was upset, ‘cause she had enough junk going on."

“Your mom is not God, and God is not your mom,” said Pearl firmly, remembering what her Daddy had said. “Daddy God loves us even when we're upset, and never kicks us out. He’s so sweet!”

“Thank God she's not--God I mean. Or He's not her, or--you know what I mean!” said Xi.

It must be hard for her to understand God's love, thought Pearl. I've had great parents, but she hasn't. Her heart hurt for a moment. I miss my daddy so much! But thank You, God, that you are helping Xi know more of Your love for her. “Let’s pray, OK?" said Pearl, trying to sound cheerful. "It’s neat that God knows it all anyway, but He wants us to just talk to Him and get everything off our chest, so we can be free, and trust Him to handle things!”

“Yeah,” said Xi. “Okay, go for it.”

"Sure. I just want to tell you again that God loves you, Xi. And it's Him that helps us pray and all that! Queen Mother says we are just willing vessels."

"What does that mean?" Xi said. "Sometimes I don't know what you're talking about!"

"It's OK," Pearl said. "It just means we work with God when we know what to do, and He makes cool things happen! So let’s pray!"

She hugged Xi. "Thanks for asking. You're the first teenager who's ever asked me to pray."

Xi looked a little uncomfortable. "Well, I like you and I really appreciate you guys taking me in. You've been very nice. Anyway, I know I have a lot of problems, but if God is real, then He will help me, right?"

"Of course! He has been helping you! All these good things are from Him! Do you want me to show you in the Bible?"

"No, I just want you to pray," said Xi, sounding a little impatient. "But that's cool that you know the Bible like that."

"Well, Daddy and Queen Mother prayed over me since I was in her tummy, and taught me and Robert to read it since we were little." Pearl said. "They helped us understand that the Bible is Daddy God's Love Letter to us, how He wants us to live and all that He's done for us."

"Hmm. Well, I've looked in the one you guys got me a little, and it's just hard to understand," Xi admitted. "I want to believe it, but--anyway, I'm glad your mom goes over stuff at breakfast. I'm learning verses, just ‘cause they're in every subject!"

Pearl laughed. "Yes, Queen Mother makes sure that God's Word is in every subject--even Spanish and music! After all, God created everything and knows about it all! Cool, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess," said Xi. She looked uncomfortable. "Are you gonna pray for me?"

"Yes," said Pearl. "But I need to tell you that you’ll never really understand the Bible until you get Jesus’ help. You must ask Him into your heart to be your Savior and LORD. See, He wrote the Bible and only He can help you understand it.” Okay, she’s really listening God. Thank You that You’re working on her heart, LORD! Pearl thought.

She looked Xi right in the eye and said, “Do you want to receive Jesus now?”

“I’m not sure yet,” Xi said quietly.

What is the matter with her, LORD? Pearl thought. Am I doing this wrong?

“Did I tell you that my daddy used to tell me that the Bible is a living Book?” Pearl said.

Xi looked doubtful. "A living book? What do you mean--like the story I read once about a witch's book that would levitate and open by itself to whatever spell she needed? Not like that, right?"

"The enemy always tries to copy God!" Pearl said.

"What are you talking about?" Xi said. She looked a little frustrated.

"God's Word never changes," said Pearl. "Jesus is the Word--John 1--and--"

"Sorry, Princess," said Xi, shaking her head. "You're not making any sense!"

A P.O.W.E.R. Princess stays cool, Pearl thought. She sighed. "Xiomara Farrar, you've gotta have Jesus in you to help you understand it!"

"Well, I know some people who say they've read the whole Bible, and still don't understand why it's full of changes and clashes and a lot that doesn't make any sense,” Xi said, and folded her arms.

Jesus, help Xi know You are always true, and she's gotta have You! Pearl prayed silently. "Queen Mother says the only way you can really understand the Bible is if you are born again, with a new spirit and Jesus in you to help you understand this supernatural Book."

"Hmm, I hear you," Xi said. "Will you pray for me now? I need to go do the ironing for your mom. She's paying me, and I appreciate it."

This is a little scary, but a lot exciting, Pearl thought. Daddy God, please pray through me, cause I don't think I can do this.

She walked up to Xi and touched her shoulder, then shut her eyes. I wonder if Xi's eyes are closed? Anyway, LORD, help me remember how Queen Mother prays, please! She waited a few seconds, then started speaking. “LORD, Xi is my friend. I love her very much and I know You love her more. I know You care about everything she feels, Jesus, and You totally understand. After all, You went through everything we ever will, and You are our Comfort. When we're down, You feel it, and You lift us up. Please help Xi to get back up, LORD. Wrap Your arms around her and lift her out of this pit. Help her to know You. In Jesus' name, amen."

She opened her eyes, and Xi was staring at her.

"What?" Pearl said, feeling a little upset. Sorry, Daddy God, I don't think my prayer did anything, but I tried.

“That was amazing!" Xi said, and smiled. "I think I felt God!"
