That's What Missionaries Do

by PamFord Davis
1/14/2022 / Devotionals

Missionaries serve around the globe and back at home too. When back in their home countries these servants give reports and testimonies in church congregations. As a Southern Baptist, I’ve heard many true stories by our missionaries. I also have special memories of a speaker back in the 1980’s at my mother’s United Methodist Church in Devine, Texas.

We frequently worshiped together. When invited to join her for a luncheon with a guest missionary speaker, I accepted. I clearly remember the missionary focusing on me as she spoke. I was not uncomfortable and listened attentively to her message. I wasn’t paranoid; it wasn’t my imagination. Mom mentioned it after we left the church. It was as if the missionary shared her ministry with me personally.

She shared.

Freed from demons, a man shared his personal experiences. He told others.

That’s what 'missionaries' do.

“And then they came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had previously had the ‘legion’; and they became frightened. Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the pigs. And they began to beg Him to leave their region. And as He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was begging Him that he might accompany Him. And He did not let him, but He said to him, ‘Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.’ And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed (Mark 5:15-20 NASB).”
