Will Reign Forever

by PamFord Davis
1/20/2022 / Devotionals

“Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned for fifty-five years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the Lord according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord dispossessed before the sons of Israel. For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had torn down; he also set up altars for the Baals and made Asherim, and he worshiped all the heavenlylights and served them. He built altars in the house of the Lord of which the Lord had said, ‘My name shall be in Jerusalem forever.’ He built altars for all the heavenly lights in the two courtyards of the house of the Lord. He also made his sons pass through the fire in the Valley of Ben-hinnom; and he practiced witchcraft, used divination, practiced sorcery, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger (2 Chronicles 16:1-6 NASB).”

Manasseh reigned for 55 years.

“Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the Lord God of Israel, behold, they are among the records of the kings of Israel. His prayer also and how God was moved by him, and all his sin, his unfaithfulness (2 Chronicles 16:18-19a NASB).

Manasseh died.

“So Manasseh lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. And his son Amon became king in his place (2 Chronicles 16:20 NASB).”

Jesus, Son of God will reign forever!

“But regarding the Son He says,

‘Your throne, God, is forever and ever,
And the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of His kingdom (Hebrews 1:8 NASB).”
