THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU SAY EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE OKAY

by linzy bruno

Taking an honest look at what’s going on in our world is a frightening and ominous thing to do these days. It’s become crystal clear that things are not going back to normal regardless of what we are being told. There isn’t any logical reason to believe that we can even have a ‘new normal.’ What’s really going on is the end of days as we know them and rather than things going back to normal, they will continue to worsen until Jesus comes and rescues us from this ever increasing evil leading to total tyranny, see 2Timothy 3:1-5 & Revelation 13:17.

It’s the most natural reaction and quite appropriate most of the time to tell kids “Everything’s going to be okay. It’s a positive and reassuring response, however, it's wise to think twice; extending this generic phrase to the believers' go-to answer: 'God will take care of us. He always does......everything's going to be okay.'

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
 (Proverbs 22:6)

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-8)

At second glance, we may draw the conclusion that this is antagonistic to Bible teaching. Unless a corresponding lesson in trusting God is included, this response may just cause an unintentional negative end result. Jesus taught that all the little children should be brought before Him, therefore, He is essentially saying that parents are to teach their kids to seek Him, for He is our Fortress (Psalm 17:8 & 18:2), and choose His answer to their problems over their own logic or any worldly solution.

But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:16)

Furthermore, this perspective shines a light on another issue; the questions kids are asking regarding the ongoing widespread panic and fear that has overtaken society. Although it may seem helpful for parents to reassure their kids that ‘everything’s going to be okay’ regarding the pandemic, we would be wise to think twice; to consider just what message this response sends. When it comes to things that we know will take care of themselves, like the promise of healing from a minor wound, there’s no reason to hesitate in this reassurance, but on the subject of what’s happening, the unprecedented occurrences in our world, isn’t it better to teach kids to trust in God’s Sovereignty; reminding them that He is our hiding place and He will reveal to us what we ought to do and say, if we seek His Counsel?

Moreover, this method of attempting to soothe children does not have the power to comfort; it implies we only have ourselves to rely on and ignores the fact that we have a Shepard to guide us (Psalm 23:1-6).

Even when we appropriately use the world’s solutions, like with medical issues for example, trusting in doctors and medicines as the remedy is still incorrect from a Biblical standpoint because only God is sovereign and the doctors still require His Direction and Wisdom, and more importantly than ever before, His Compassion.

Also noteworthy, not having to wear a mask is not a sign of things going back to normal, but merely a political ploy, which means the driving force behind this latest development is not what it seems and does not imply that things are improving.

Furthermore, what if this plan fails? How do you respond then, when your children ask why things are NOT getting better and everything is STILL not okay? Speaking of the current conditions in the world, this so-called means of comfort is doomed to be rendered illegitimate and hollow.

Certainly secular society would disagree, they believe we should fear death above all and do whatever we can to extend our lives here because after this there is no life, only the cold dark grave; the Bible says we do not have to abide in the fear of man/death, if we abide in Him (1John 4:4).

Also noteworthy is that this answer we give to kids places a great deal of control in the hands of man and what or who we look to for the fix, cure or answer/solution we subsequently develop a reverent fear for and what we fear gives way to control over us. Thus, if we tell our kids everything’s going to be okay, we are in essence teaching that it’s the world’s solutions we should turn to, which subsequently becomes what we fear.

God did not intend for us to live under the control and fear of man, which is equivalent to the fear of death. Moreover, rather than looking to the world's remedies to make everything okay, we ought to look to God Who as the only One Who can make everything okay. See Genesis 50:20 and Romans 8:28. We are to fear God and let Him be God; looking to Him, over man to sustain our lives……THEREFORE, we ought to be teaching this simple but profound TRUTH to our kids, because God’s Word teaches that we ought to raise them in up in Christ, as we read in Luke 18:16.

“Sever yourselves from such a man,
Whose breath is in his nostrils;
For of what account is he?”
 (Isaiah 2:22)

“I, even I, am He who comforts you.
Who are you that you should be afraid
Of a man who will die,
And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?”
 (Isaiah 51:12)

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)

“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”
 (Hebrews 13:6)

“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
 (1Corinthians 15:55)

Therefore, let us instruct our children in the fear of the Lord. Reverent fear may seem too grown up a subject to teach little ones, but simply and lovingly put with a children’s Bible and a prayer or two at your side, it’s not so tough……..and SO worth the extra effort.

Our real home is not here in the world, but in Heaven and that those souls in Heaven are not dead, for only the body dies. We will be more alive than ever before and without restraint in our supernatural bodies in Heaven, finally fully redeemed!

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 3:20)

"So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." (1Corinthians 15:42-45)
