Three Sons

by PamFord Davis
3/14/2022 / Devotionals

I grew up with three boys.

No, they were not at home or my brothers; they were actors who starred in ‘My Three Sons.’

I was only 11 when the show premiered in 1960. At 23, I was a wife and mother by the time ‘My Three Sons’ ended in 1972.

The three sons of Fred MacMurray (in the role of Steve Douglas) were like extended family.

Sadly, fans have lost 2 of the 3 sons. Don Grady (in the role of Robbie) died at the age of 68 of cancer. You might remember that he began as one of the Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeers. Tim Considine, oldest of the three, died recently of natural causes at 81.

I was sad.

3 sons-2=1

Is that correct?

Yes and no…

Stanley Livingston (in the role of Chip) was the youngest of the Douglas boys.

Yet, writers had to adapt when Tim Considine left the cast. Chips best friend (and neighbor) Ernie filled out the family. Ernie’s parents died in an accident and Steve Douglas gave him a home; eventually adopting him as his son. Many didn’t know Ernie was actually Barry Livingston, Stanley’s younger brother.

1-2-3

Cain, Abel and Seth…

Eve gave God the credit.

“Adam was intimate with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, ‘I have had a male child with the Lord’s help.’ Then she also gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel became a shepherd of flocks, but Cain worked the ground (Genesis 4:1-2 HCSB).”

Cain killed Abel.

“Adam was intimate with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for she said, ‘God has given me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him (Genesis 4:25 HCSB).”

More followed (Genesis 5:4)
