RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE OSAS PROMISE

This Once Saved Always Saved doctrine has to be the most misunderstood Promise in all of Christendom.

If someone comes to God in all sincerity, they are saved by Him and He will never leave them nor forsake them, hence, they are always saved (Romans 8:35-39). However, if someone who claims to believe, turns away, they were never really saved in the first place, therefore, they only thought they were saved.

This is somewhat of a revelation, that it isn't the Once Saved Always Saved doctrine that is incorrect, it is correct! What is incorrect is

Once you think you are saved,

you are always saved.

Not saying anyone would even say this, but taking a look at it makes it more clear.....

And the truth is, if we could turn away from God, if we keep our own human nature and continue to exalt it above God, after being saved, then perhaps we need to realize we were never saved in the first place and get down to repentance and beg God to cleanse us of this misstep.

In other words, we need to be careful we are not abusing God's Grace; making certain we understand God's Promises, Doctrines and Precepts.

If someone is truly saved, they no longer want to carry on in sin and will never use their God-given free will to depart from Him and His Ways, thus they are OSAS.

However, for those whose tendency it is to seek a so-called simpler interpretation (it is, but not the way they teach it!) It may be that they are seeking a way to live that they see as easier and lets them off the sin-hook, not because Jesus' Death makes God's Throne available to them to come to Him in repentance, but that they are not required to repent after they first repent, (already sounds like it's based in pride to me.) But what this really points to is that they were never saved in the first place.

This false teaching insists that once you are saved and say the salvation prayer, you can basically live without consequence. Although this teaching is based in the truth that once a believer gives his or her life to the Lord, nothing can come in and cause division; (Romans 8:35-39) they leave out the other side of the coin, so to speak, our worst enemy--the self.....(Galatians 5:13)

AND, as far as consequence, we all have to face that because what we reap, we also will sow; (Galatians 6:7-9) this is God's Law.

The Truth is that for those who truly love God and give their lives to Him; they will not depart from it because if one can do such a thing, then that one was never saved to begin with.

Nothing can come in and take our salvation away, hence it is true; God Saves us once and for all; we are always saved. Said in this context, God's Promise to not to go back on His Word can be fully acknowledged and we are provided a reliable sense of peace and security, which then leads to gratitude (and we go on to live for Him and His Glory, for this is rightly dividing the OSAS promise.)

As mentioned, those who misunderstand God's Eternal Promise, are being taught that they can live without consequence; believing they can go on and live whatever way they see fit, (as long as they don't hurt anyone else, as they further believe....) because they are covered under OSAS. This false sense of security makes them think that even their willful sin cannot separate them from God's Presence. Furthermore, this reveals a lacking understanding of the responsibility of free will we all must bear.

The fact is, if we are truly saved, our hearts are changed by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, so that we no longer want to sin and living to please Him is our radically stubborn new focus.

Troubles With This No Consequence, No Repentance Manner of Teaching..... it--

--Erodes Godly Fear; making one feel an out of balance sense of equality and/or friendship with God

--Misrepresents God before the unsaved

--Completely evades the subject of free will and the responsibility therein

--Mocks God with a legalistic, invalidating sense of permission to break His Laws and turn His Statutes upside down, in the misguided attempt to manipulate His Grace (Romans 6:1-2)

--Gives people a license to sin and twists the Biblical use of God's Granting of repentance

--Misrepresents the seriousness and utter necessity for humility

--Provides nothing more than a false sense of security and a misunderstanding of TRUTH

Furthermore, for those that do understand this whole mess, the alarm this teaching provokes can be a reminder of what Jesus was trying to warn us against in several of His Parables, like the one in Matthew 7:24-27, for example. And there are other verses and passages in Scripture that negate this thinking and show it as dangerous:

"For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins," (Hebrews 10:26)

"And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand." (John 10:28-29)

"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God." (1John 5:13)
