Rest In the Glory of God Until these Calamities Have Passed

Romans 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

We have all been appalled by the ruthless and unprovoked attack of Ukraine by Russia. Ukraine is a nation filled with very many God-hungry people intent on seeking his purposes for their lives and the life of their nation. Watching social media, I have been amazed by the many reports of the prayers (and answered prayers) made by Ukrainians during this time. One picture I saw was of an elderly man praying at a table with his toddler grandson kneeling beside him, hands clasped. As I gazed at this image, I was impressed by the Holy Spirit reminding me that nothing – absolutely nothing – will separate his children from the love and presence of Jesus.

Isaiah writes: “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” He goes on to describe how the temple shook at the manifest presence of God and how he saw an open heaven where seraphim perpetually worship God. The train of the glory of God he witnessed was like the train of a bride filling the aisle as she walks to meet her groom. The Hebrew for glory is kavod, which means weight or heavy. The image is that of the weight of a thick warm blanket wrapped around one’s shoulders. Kavod Adonai – the glory of God - brings his comfort, security and peace.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Our God reigns supreme. By his omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent Holy Spirit he sees you and is with you in the fray. The righteous shall flourish (and you are declared righteous by God’s grace through faith) and know peace, even in the face of the onslaught. They shall bear fruit and flourish. Because the Lord is their Rock.

So, rest in prayer and be still before the Lord. Do not fret when men carry out their wicked schemes. Make your refuge under the shadow of his glory until these calamities have passed.

Praying for Ukraine!

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I rest under the shadow of your glory, like a blanket upon my shoulders

“Dear God, I am horrified at what I see happening in Ukraine. Firstly, O Lord, I want to pray for an end to this conflict and the healing of that nation. Save your people and protect them against this assault. I pray, too, for the innocent Russian people that they would find peace and hope in you. Raise up godly men and women to stand for truth and reconciliation. Secondly, O Lord, I commit my conflicts to you. Help me to walk in truth and purity. I know you are with me in the fray. I rest under the shadow of your glory, like a blanket upon my shoulders. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”

If you require more prayer, I’d love to pray with you. Please email [email protected]
