Cost of Commitment

Friends, Carol and Patrick McAvan just celebrated their 55^th wedding anniversary. Carol shared a picture of their wedding party on Messenger. I was Carol’s maid of honor; the picture has faded but memories are clear.

I had a flashback of an embarrassing wedding day experience. Carol and I went together to a beauty parlor to have our hair styled before the ceremony. Large bouffant curls were worn as a popular style of the time. I told the stylist that was what I wanted and she did a beautiful job.

I was satisfied with what I saw in the mirror but my heart sank when she told me how much I owed her. I only brought cash enough for shampoo, set and styling. She said curls cost extra.

Carol had to leave me there while she drove home to get more money. All’s well that ends well; we got to the church on time. Carol and Patrick tied the knot; it still holds.

They counted the cost of commitment.

Are you committed to Christ?

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,  saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple (Luke 14:28-33 NKJV).”
