*She was lamenting the lack of funding for her project
[Encarta Dictionary: English (North America]

Gathered for Bible study, our small group of adults read the weekly lesson. The word lament was a part of the day’s scripture passage.

Lament brought back memories of days long ago to friend Harvey. He remembered when it was common expression; he didn’t think it was used much anymore.

Jesus prepared His disciples.

“Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy (John 16:20 NKJV).”

Lament over sin…

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up (James 4:7-10 NKJV).”

Do we submit to Him?

Are we resisting the devil?

Do we confess our sins and ask the LORD to cleanse and purify us? (1 John 1:9)

Are we truly lamenting; mourning over sin and weeping in prayer?

He is seeking the humble.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled (Matthew 5:3-6 NKJV).”
