Longing for God

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.” Psalm 63:1,2

American Christians would readily say, God is my God. But who, really, is your God? Is He the God of the Bible? Or Is he one of your own making and imagination? There is a vast difference.

The Bible portrays God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) as eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the Creator who created everything that exists in six twenty-four-hour days. He is the Sustainer of everything and upholds all things by the word of His power. He has an active and compassionate interest in every person and every event that occurs.

He is a loving God that sent His Son to die for our sins. But He is a just and holy God that cannot tolerate sin. At the top of the “sin list” is unbelief. Jesus said that “He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:18

Many people like to talk about the loving Jesus. Jesus did demonstrate love and spoke extensively about love. But sometimes people conveniently forget that Jesus spoke more about the reality of hell than any other person in the Bible.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior from sin and the eternal consequences of sin? And, if you do know Jesus as Savior, do you worship Him for who He is – as revealed in the Bible?

Don’t manufacture your own God. Do you thirst for, and long for, the God of the Bible? Do you want to see His power and glory? Choose to seek Him and worship Him for all that He truly is.
