Are You a P.O.W.E.R.* Writer?--Part One

And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by.--Habakkuk 2:2, AMPC

There are writers, and then there are P.O.W.E.R.* (Purposeful Operations With Eternal Rewards) Writers.

There are almost innumerable people who called themselves "Christian," and write and publish things are are either not true to the Word of God, and can thus deceive readers who are truly seeking to know the LORD better, and/or publishing things that are full of carnal, emotional, even sexual pulls and other ideas that can misrepresent Christ and distract the reader(s) from Him.

Writing true to the Word--being a true P.O.W.E.R.* Writer--is a big responsibility, and a mandate from the Most High (I am preaching to myself first!).

Which one are you? Here are tips on how to know!

P.O.W.E.R.* (Purposeful Operations With Eternal Rewards) Writers:

(1) Read the Word, pray, and stay in attitude of worship and thankfulness to God daily.

(2) Know that (as God had to teach me!), the LORD expects us to use the gift of writing to "share the wealth" of His Word so others will know Him! It's not pride; it's humility! He is the Author, and we His royal scribes (Matthew 13:52)! Just like He used people to write the Bible, when we write words breathed by the Holy Spirit, all the glory goes to Him.

(3) Even when writing fiction, keep the focus on the LORD, and stay true to His Word, even while broaching sensitive and subjects that might cause conflict. In other words, although some characters shown true to life may curse, there is really no need to put those foul words in the work of a P.O.W.E.R.* Writer! (Just like Sherwood Baptist Church can produce such excellent movies like Facing the Giants, Fireproof, The Prayer Room, and more--with no distasteful cursing, sexual inferences, etc. If they can do it in movies, so can we in writing!)

We are all in process to become more like Christ (when we are sincerely seeking Him, of course, and His Spirit helps us desire and do that!).

Ask the LORD to help you by yielding to His all-knowing Holy Spirit, then trust that He is guiding you! I've had to overcome doubt myself, with some of the intense emotional things God has given me (but they've not gone against the Word, and they always pointed to the redemption and merciful grace of God!).
