Will YOUR Attitude Be Found in The Beatitudes?

by Tonja Taylor
6/30/2022 / Christian Living

Seeing the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and when He was seated, His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: "Blessed..."--Matthew 5:1-3, AMPC

As I was reading Matthew 5 this morning, the LORD revealed to me that we need to make sure our attitudes are worthy to "be" in the Beatitudes!

The LORD is so good! He gives us so many blessings just for obeying His Word, and His commands are not really hard, nor do they bring grief!

…2 By this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, 4 because everyone born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.…I John 5:2-4, Berean Study Bible

So, as I was reading these excellent Scriptures out loud--and I highly enjoy reading them in the Amplified Classic Version of the Bible--I was convicted that (of course!), if I am going to be an excellent example to others of my LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, then my attitude had better be found in these Beatitudes!

"...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose." ---Philippians 2:12-13, Berean Study Bible

Praise the LORD, His Spirit in us inspires and motivates us to want to be more like Christ, then He helps us do that, and rewards us for it! How awesome and good, and awesomely good, is our dear Daddy God!

So let's do a "BeATTITUDE check," starting with verse 5, in the list of Beatitutdes in Matthew 5:

5 Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall inherit the earth!

Ok, we've heard that "Meek doesn't mean weak," right? Right. In dealing with other people, are we mild, patient, long-suffering? Hmmm. God is helping me do better (after getting out many roots that caused me to respond wrongly in many situations, where I did NOT have the right "BeATTITUDE."

Let's look at verse 6:

6 Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied!

Let me see: Am I asking God to fill me with Himself every day, and make me sensitive and obedient to His Spiriit? Am I seeking Him in prayer, Bible reading, and worship daily, and church attendance at least once a week?

Okay, one more; verse 9:

9 Blessed (enjoying enviable happiness, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they shall be called the sons of God!

We can ask ourselves: Am I going about sharing info with others that is personal; gossiping, and calling it "prayer"? Am I getting into strife on social media, with other Believers or non-Believers?  Am I holding ought (offense, resentment, anger, bad feelings of any kind) in my heart against others, especially other Believers?

So, you can do a self-check with every one of these.

Just a thought. We are all in process, but the point is to grow daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and to be able to see and demonstrate growth in the LORD.

He will help us. Hallelujah!

I like what the LORD Jesus said in verse 12, after He'd exhorted the listeners with how they would be blessed if they worked to have their attitudes be like His Beatitudes:

12 Be glad and supremely joyful, for your reward in heaven is great (strong and intense), for in this same way people persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Yes and amen!

Jesus is returning soon. By having our attitudes be like the Beatitudes, we will be more like Him, shining more of His light, so that more people will see the real Christ, and be drawn to Him. Hallelujah, let it be, and come quickly, LORD Jesus!

12“Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done. --Revelation 22:12, Berean Study Bible
