Whose Prophet Are You? (2)

by Olawale Ogunsola

In part one of this topic, I have discussed the matter of those who are in the ministry without being commissioned by the Holy Spirit of God who owns the business, Luke 2:49.

In this part, self examination is equally important for those who are genuinely called into ministry. Let me repeat here what the Scriptures say concerning this, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" 2 Corinthians 13:5.
"Is there any need for this, after all, it is the Holy Spirit Who commissioned me into the ministry?" "Yes!"is my answer to this. "Why, you may ask?" Let me point out, among many others, that deviation is a possibility. If care is not taken, a man of God who was committed by the Holy Spirit may deviate from the right route to follow falsehood.

This becomes easier as soon as a man of God begins to disobey the commandments of God through the Holy Spirit. Many times, it doesn't begin with outright disobedience. It starts with, editing the instructions of the Lord, misinterpreting His commandment wilfully, delayed obedience until flagrant disobedience becomes the order of the day. Whereas, the expectation of the Lord from His Servants is total for to Him alone and at all the times.

When this comes in, God forbids, the Holy Spirit will also start by warning the man of God, if he doesn't yield or pay attention, He, the Holy Spirit will keep quiet and lastly, He will quietly depart from such a recalcitrant Servant of God. The sad aspect of it is that the man of God in question will not know that the Spirit of Jesus Christ has departed.

Let us consider this from a sad experience of a truly commissioned Man of God from the Scriptures:
His name was Zedekiah. He was one of the most recognized of the Prophets in the land of Israel during the reign of King Ahab. He was one of the four hundred Prophets who encouraged King Ahab to go to war at Ramothgilead by their prophecies to his, Ahab's destruction. I call him the President of the Prophets. Yet, the Holy Spirit had departed from him and his colleagues without knowing.

Is this true? I say "Yes!" Any proof of this? Please, read along: After declaration of their false prophecies, a true Prophet of God was invited who told King Ahab the truth about the battle he was about to fight. The revelation, it's analysis and interpretations were clean and clear. It was then that Zedekiah saw his TRUE NAKEDNESS. He declared, "Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto you?" 1 Kings 22:24.

This sad question could no one answer! Or, beloved reader, do you know any well constructed route by which the Holy Spirit go from one place to another? Zedekiah's question could not be answered by himself, Michaiah, the true Prophet nor any of the remaining three hundred and ninety-nine Prophets. It remains a difficult question until today.

One thing that is sure is that the Spirit of God can depart from a Prophet of God. God forbids! May the Lord help us.

One thing that happens when the Spirit of Truth departs is that,
I. A man of God becomes an acrobatic displayer. He designs methods and means to proof what he says. In Zedekiah's case, he "...made him horns of iron, and he said, 'Thus says the Lord, with these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them." 1 Kings 22:11.
Such Servant of God will be full of activities on the pulpit without positive and God-involved results.
ii. He will be occupied with what looks like the things of God instead of the real thing of the Lord, which is original. He will be content with the "look-alike" instead of gunning for the original.
iii. Not only this, such a Minister will attack any man of God who reveals the truth. This can be physical or spiritual. It can be verbal or otherwise. In the case of Zedekiah, the Scriptures discloses, "But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah, went near and smote Michaiah on the cheek..." 1 Kings 22:24a,b.
This is a common practice among those who have lost their bearing with the Lord. No Holy Spirit to direct them, He has left them!
I am of the opinion that instead of attacking a Minister of God who has the Holy Spirit, he ought to re examine himself, make necessary adjustments, plead with the Lord, after confession of his sins, to restore His Holy Spirit to him.

A Change Of Position.
Do you know what? Zedekiah and his peers were Prophets of God at the beginning but because of their connections with the King, they preferred to tell the king only what he wanted to hear. They did not want to forfeit king's delicacies, which had spoiled them.
By so doing, they became easily accessible for use by the spirit of deceit to destroy their client, king Ahab. King Ahab went to the battlefield at Ramothgilead to come as a dead man according to the Words of truth spoken by Michaiah, the Prophet of God.

It's essential at this juncture to ask and examine yourself, " Whose Prophet am I?" Answer the question faithfully and sincerely. Make necessary amends where necessary. God bless you.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
