Food Of Your Fancy

by Olawale Ogunsola
11/04/2022 / Christian Apologetics

One day in March 2022, a grandma who, concidentally, is a Minister of God had this to say, "I am tired of eating meat, I now want fish which is not forthcoming"

Thamks to God that she did not carry it too far by tempting and accusing and condemming Him for not providing it as soon.as.she craved it

Do you know that this type of demanding fpr your fancy has not just started? The Scriptures reveals this about the Jews,
"And they tested God in their heart,
By asking for the food of their fancy." Psalm 78:18(New King James Version, NKJV)

The original King James Version renders it thus, "And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust." (KJV).

Beloved, do you know that a good junk of bitterness of heart that people have, most especially Saints of the Lord, are caused by their demands for food of their fancy which comes in various forms and sizes? This may be food that can be eaten or something else that are not edible? Because such things are demanded, it means that they are useful to the fellow who craves it. So, permit me to classify them as "food" for the purpose of this write-up.

Do you know that it is not a sin to demand what you need from the Lord your God? He is a caring Father and Lord. He is the source of all supplies. What is wrong in asking Food Of Your Fancy is the
i. Fancy or lust part of the demand. It was not that the people of God lacked food but they allowed lust of the flesh to overcome them. The Holy Scriptures warn against satisfying the lust of the flesh. It pitches one against the Lord, his God. By so doing, one can become an enemy of his Maker. This will not be a comfortable experience at all.

ii. Another danger associated with it is that it leads to tempting God or doubting Him and His power to provide the needs of His people. Jesus Christ warned Satan, "You shall not tempt the Lord your God." Matthew 4:7. Jesus quoted this from God's commands to His people in the book of Deuteronomy 6:13. To tempt God is a grave sin that provokes the Lord to anger.

iii. Many times, when asking food of your fancy, it goes with speaking against God. When it comes to satisfying their lusts, people do not honour God. They employ insulting words that demean Him. This ought not to be so. It attracts punishment from God! The Holy Bible records about the Jews, "Yes, they spoke against God; they said, 'Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?'" Psalm 78:19.

OUTCOME:
What was the outcome of their evil demand?
1. The Lord God proved His might to provide for their lust, "Yet He had commanded the clouds above,
And opened the door of heaven,
Had rained down manna on them to eat,
And given them of the bread of heaven.
Men ate angels' food ;
He sent them food to the full." Psalm 78:23-25.

What followed?

2. The wrath of God came upon them and many of God's people were destroyed, verse 31.

Beloved reader, are you contented with God's provision? Do you want God's desire for your life to be satisfied or you want your own desires to be met at all costs? Do you ask to tempt God? These are dangerous. As a child of God, you have the right to demand for your portion of your Father's inheritance but it must be done humbly, with faith in Him and for His glory alone and not for lust or selfish reasons.

May you not incur the wrath of God in Jesus name.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus name.
SALVATION MESSAGE: In case you just "stumble"on this piece and you do not know your Creator or you have been so far deceived with one religion or the other, I am happy to inform you that TODAY is the appointed time to be reconciled with your Maker.
*Accept the truth that you are a sinner and cannot help yourself.
*Confess all your sins to the Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive you, He will surely do.
*Ask the Lord to occupy and control your heart forever.
*Request Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit to be within you forever.
* Obtain a copy of the Holy Bible for daily reading and application for great benefits.
*Join an assembly of God's children where the Scripture is held in high esteem for fellowship and growth.
May the Lord help you to walk with Him for the rest of your life in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
