Dominating Disappointment - Part II

by Tonja Taylor
2/06/2023 / Christian Living

But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Matthew 15:13, KJV

Disappointment happens, but here are strategies you can use to help you dominate it, cooperate with the LORD to pull up the wrong roots that have caused it, and refocus quickly on the LORD, Who is your joy, your strength, your peace, your victory!

The LORD will help you recognize and repent of and reject wrong roots (rubble) that have strangled you and your gifts; that the defeated enemy has been able to trouble you with in the past. Through His Word, repentance, the love of a good church family, prayer, and praise and worship, He will help you remove that junk from your life and start making your life better than it's ever been! His plan has always been for you to have a wonderful life (John 10:10; Ephesians 2:10 and 3:20)!

“Afflicted city, storm-battered, unpitied: I’m about to rebuild you with stones of turquoise, Lay your foundations with sapphires, construct your towers with rubies, Your gates with jewels, and all your walls with precious stones. All your children will have God for their teacher— what a mentor for your children! You’ll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble—nothing to fear! far from terror—it won’t even come close! If anyone attacks you, don’t for a moment suppose that I sent them, And if any should attack, nothing will come of it. I create the blacksmith who fires up his forge and makes a weapon designed to kill. I also create the destroyer— but no weapon that can hurt you has ever been forged. Any accuser who takes you to court will be dismissed as a liar. This is what God’s servants can expect. I’ll see to it that everything works out for the best.” God’s Decree.--Isaiah 54:11-17, MSG

Here are the major strategies to help this happen:

1. Turn on the praise and worship music, and listen and sing along. God inhabits/lives in/operates in the praises of us His people (Psalm 22:3).

When you listen to music that glorifies the LORD, you start thinking on a higher level. You realize more how much He loves you and how awesome He truly is. You get your mind off yourself and your problems. (If you listen to worldly music, you're not going to help the disappointment or other negatives; it will probably get worse, because so much of the music of the world is full of strife and disappointment and other junk!)

2. Tell the LORD all your troubles, and ask Him to give you strategies for victory, to dominate and be free of the disappointment and other negatives. This is a form of prayer; talking to God--confessing the bad, and asking Him to give us victory, to overcome the bad with the good (He knows them anyway, and He loves you and wants you to pour out your heart to Him--and then let Him heal you.

He is very patient and kind and understands all things, but He also does not want us to wallow in self-pity nor strife nor anger nor grief and sorrow, nor fear, etc. He wants us to tell Him, and let Him pull out the wrong roots that have caused these negative emotions.

It is often a process, and when some preacher or another leader says, "Just get over it," then they usually don't understand the longer process involved for some of us in the healing, deliverance, and restoration. But our good, sweet, kind, loving, all-knowing Daddy God does, and He will help us! God can certainly expedite things, and all healing comes from Him, in every dimension of our lives. Some things are not healed "overnight" though, and we must remember--me included--that God is not mad at us, and He knows all things, and is working them all for our best and His glory (Genesis 50:20, and Romans 8:28).

The LORD is our Daddy God, our best Friend, and He wants to communicate with us daily! This is the core of prayer. Praying the Word of God back to Him, and praying in the Holy Spirit, are the most powerful forms of prayer.

3. Thank the LORD for all the good. Write a list! There is something powerful about speaking our thanks, and something powerful in a different way when we write them down.

My husband and I keep a Thanksgiving journal, in which we write daily, or almost daily. There are always so many things to be thankful for! Even if it seems hard to start with, ask the Holy Spirit to bring things to your mind to write down, and He will! You will be amazed, especially when you do this daily.

16 Rejoice evermore.17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.--I Thess. 5:16-18, KJV

As you become more thankful (which the LORD commands us to do anyway, for our own good --and for the good of others, who hear and see us being thankful and not griping and criticizing and complaining!--you will start to refocus on the goodness of God, and you will experience more peace and joy, because you will realize even more that God loves you deeply!

4. Ask the LORD to lead you to a good, Bible-believing church family (even online is good, when you listen and learn consistently), although attending a live church service is the best. God commands us to gather with others, which is to help us, not Him! Everything He tells us is to help us, His kids, live peaceful, joyful, abundant, victorious lives!

Remember that church is made up of imperfect people, like you and me, and you may be disappointed in them, sooner or later. Ask the LORD to love them through you, and help you see them as He does (This works for spouses, children, and othoer relatives too!).

Don't put people, including the leaders, on a pedestal. I had to learn that the hard way, and more than once.  We definintely should not follow leaders who are involved in sin while leading the church, and sometimes, you have to make a change. Make sure you have the peace of God on it, and ask the LORD to lead you immediately to the next right church.  I was in a church for 18.5 years, and the LORD led me to a different Bible-believing church.  It was right, though. I stayed in prayer about it and made sure I was hearing from God, and I love my new Bible-believing church family even more. I am where I need to be for this phase of what the LORD has for me on the earth! Hallelujah!

At the right Bible-believing church, you'll make friends and experience the corporate power of God that you cannot experience usually by yourself, no matter how close you are to the LORD. However, the more time you spend with Him, cultivating this most precious relationship of all, the more you will be confident and at peace; the more you will be sensitive to His Spirit, and know His love.

Sometimes, the LORD has had me visit another Bible-believing church, but it was just that; a visit to receive what He had in that service, but not home. He helps us know when we are "home," even though--like for me, after 18.5 years at a church I thought I'd be at "forever"--that home can change.

He is the soon-coming King of glory, and we want to be in His perfect will, in every way.

Dominating disappointment and declaring the glory of King Jesus, our Savior and LORD and very best Friend Forever, helps us in many ways to do that. When we are free of negatives, we realize more deeply the love of God, and are freer to show it to others.

And the Love of Jesus Christ, the Living God, is truly what the world wants and needs.

So let the LORD help you dominiate disappointment and declare His glory today!

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.--John 16:33, KJV
