The Dog From Hell!

by Anastasia Floyd
11/24/2007 / Humor

One summer all of the children in the family were at I and Nana's house. My Sister and Brothers and all of my Cousins. In the back of our house was a large parking lot, and there was a factory out there also, and beside the factory was a tin gate that led to Shields Street. The people on our street and the people on Shields street had a beef with each other. So the people on our street called the people from Shields Street "The Spook Town People". It was just a given that the people on our block did not go over to spook town and the spook town people did not come over to our street.

But this was a real hot summer day and the kids from our street were in the back field with the water hydrant on having a good time. There was no water hydrant in spook town so those kids were hot I'm sure, anyway I looked up while playing in the water and saw some of the spook town kids standing at the tin fence looking at us play in the water.

Then they began approaching where we were and my dog "Freeway" saw them and started barking at them. Freeway was a fun loving dog but he was no protector I had to protect him. But one of the boys told Freeway to shut up and threw a rock at Freeway. Freeway yelped and began running and I and my cousin Rick proceeded to get some rocks and throw them at the spook town boys. The spook town boys ran off back behind the tin fence and I and Rick went back to playing in the water.

Freeway came back over there by us. Next thing we know here come the spook town boys again this time it was like ten of them and they had a large Alaskan Huskie Dog with them! I knew what they were planning I told Freeway 'Run home boy!" and Freeway took off running to the backyard at Nana's house. So I and Rick and my Sister and Jade and the rest of us faced off with the Spook town boys.

They told the dog to come after us and he came after us but we scattered to all sides to confuse him and we began throwing rocks at him. He got hit and yelped and stopped coming after us.

So the Spook town boys got real angry and told us "this aint over!" and they left again. So we're all high fiving each other laughing at how we defeated them and next thing we know we see this blur coming around the fence at break neck speed! We looked and it was a little dog! Not half as big as the Alaskan Huskie so we figure piece of cake we'll scare him too.

We threw rocks at that little dog, it just kept on coming. We even threw glass at the dog and it bust in front of him, he just kept on coming! He had a snarl on his face all his teeth were showing! The Dog was Bad! I yelled to the rest "Retreat!" and we all started high tailing it to the backyard. We managed to get inside even the little ones. That dog was at the gate growling and scratching trying to get inside the yard. Freeway was under the picnic table trembling.

We thought ok we're safe now that dog can't get us. Then the darn spook town boys climbed on top of my neighbors garage and started throwing rocks at us!

We panicked and ran into the shed which was in the backyard. Big mistake cause the shed only had one way out! So we could not get out because every time we tried to get out the spook town boys would bombard us with rocks. My littlest cousin was crying saying she wanted her mama. I and Rick were trying to come up with a plan to get out. My sister was saying this was all Freeway's fault calling him a dumb dog.

But salvation came! Freeway had gotten Nana's attention and she came out there with her pitchfork in her hand. She told those spook town boys to get off that roof and go home. One of them tried to back talk and Nana asked him if he wanted her to come up on the roof where he was.

They got down and left. We came out the shed where the coal for the winter was kept looking totally ridiculous. All black from where the coal had got on us. Nana just shook her head and went back inside the house.

But as I always say I try to get something out of all my experiences. I gleaned things from that experience that will be of help to those who listen. That little dog that was after us had a one track mind, he was determined to get us no matter what. Even being hit with a rock did not stop that little dog from his mission.

Now just imagine if Christians had that same mentality, we could take a hit and keep on charging forward anyway. And also I learned that you should never get so caught up celebrating and turn your back on your enemy, sometimes the enemy will be down but that does not mean he won't be coming back. We need to celebrate our victories but still have a watchful eye.

That little dog was relentless, I still say that that little dog was "demon possessed" and his eyes were Red I don't care what Rick says. But the devil is just like that little dog he is relentless, he just keeps coming. So the people of God need to be relentless too we just need to keep praying and keep fasting and keep walking in love. Told you I get something out of all my experiences.
