Are U a Spongebob in the Spirit?

by Anastasia Floyd

Spongebob is a cartoon character that my nephews love to watch. I have seen more than my fair share of episodes of Spongebob! But I like to see what I can get out of everything that I watch or pay attention too. Even Spongebob! LOL!!! So many Christians have been Saved for so long, some over 20 years, some over 30 years. And yet how is it that a Christian that has been saved even over 7 years can still be a baby Christian? It is because some of us are just going thru the motions. We're going to church because we know we need to be going to church.

We're listening to good Word after good Word week after week after week. But some of us unfortunately are doing only that "just listening" we hear the Word we get so excited and jump all over the church. We yell Amen so loud you can barely hear the one bringing the Word forth. Then we walk right out the door and forget everything that we have heard. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone because I have been guilty of this also at one point and time in my life.

I would hear the Word and go home anxious to get to the table for my Nana's famous Sunday dinner. She would ask me what the message was about and I would literally at times have to stop and think of what the message was about.

But that was in my young days in the Lord. Having been Saved over ten years I can thank God that is not the story anymore. For some of us if we never heard another message preached there is enough Word in us to live off for almost the rest of our lives. Some of us are just sponges in the spirit. We soak up the Word and get fat and walk out and don't apply any of it to our everyday lives. How is it that someone who has been faithfully attending church for over 5 years still has not mastered the concept of "walking in Love"?

Even baby Christians know how to walk in love until, they come across some other Christian who wounds them or offends them. I understand why God repeats things to us over and over again. We need to hear them over and over again! That is why I love my cassette player I can pop in a tape from over 5 years ago and listen to it and learn something new even now.

I think we all as the people of God need to stop getting fat off the Word soaking it up like a sponge. When are we going to put it into practice? I personally believe there would not be as much discord and confusion in the body if we all were applying what we hear, instead of just hearing it and still remaining just the same.

I've seen situations where a person will teach a awesome message on walking in Love, and then turn around and slay some other saint with the same tongue that just finished talking about walking in love. Where on earth do we think God is when we do this type of stuff? God never sleeps he never slumbers, so where do we think he is when we are misbehaving?

If we have not mastered walking in love after 5 years, why should we be elevated? It's like Apostle Paul said when we should be eating real food we still because of our immaturity still have to drink milk like a baby.

If we would just tap into the Word that is already in us and begin to apply it the whole kingdom of God would change for the better. No one would be trying to undermine anyone else, we would be functioning in the area of our gifting and not have time to be paranoid that someone else would replace us. Then the church would not be like a revolving door because the baby saints would really have strong mature people to look up to and to set an example for them.

Let's not be like Spongebob and just be a sponge that soaks up the Word, let's do something with the Word we are hearing! This is not to judge or condemn anyone but to bring to light that we need to do something with the word we are hearing. Many people in the world that used to go to church all make the same comment they don't come anymore because they see the way a lot of people in the church really don't obey the Word of God. Worldly people can tell if the saints are genuine or not by their lives outside the church.

If unsaved people see you behaving the same way they do, why would they want to come to church. If unsaved people come into our service and see the "seasoned saints" tearing people apart with their tongues, they figure "I might as well keep doing what I been doing, there is nothing different in here".

True enough no one is perfect and we all have our flaws. But why keep running to conference after conference getting more and more Word, when we aren't even doing anything with the Word that is already inside of us?

God is tired of his people soaking up all this Word and none of it seems to have an effect upon our daily lives.

When we see someone that is successful a smart person who desires to be successful also will want to know how that person became successful. When I see leaders in my church that are strong and really living the Word, I desire to know what they are doing to maintain that level of holiness. And it encourages me because I know that it can be done, we can live holy and be sold out for God.

On the flip side if I see a Leader who preaches all these great sermons but then on the other hand they will cut you down with their tongue in a heartbeat, I have no desire to imitate that person. NO matter how gifted they are.

God will not take back a gift he has given you, so you can preach awesome messages and bring the house down and still be in sin! But when a man or woman is operating out of their spirit the anointing is upon them and that combined with the gift they have makes a world of difference. I heard a powerful woman of God say the devil is not worried about your gift whatever it may be, he's worried about us operating in our gift with the anointing at the same time.

When you operate in your gift and that is combined with the anointing, the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and those held captive will be set free!
