Heartwarming Holidays

Five hours earlier the doorbell chimed.
The television blared and the radio rhymed.
The kettle whistled out its loud alarm,
Kids played rough, but there was no harm.
Mothers cooked, and fathers talked sports,
The teenagers danced & sang in t-shirts & shorts.
Hugs were given and kisses too,
The house was filled with family, friends, and only God knows who.
There were spills that were made and glass that was broken
There were gifts given out to each of us as a small token.
Laughter and smiles, well wishes and all,
A grand time was had by the big and the small.
When the last one left I looked around then gave the door a slight pull,
Even though the room was empty, my heart was quite full.
