Words of Life

by Shakera Reid-Stewart
1/27/2008 / Writing

What do you do when you're just so overwhelmed with emotion and talking it through simply doesn't work? When you constantly witness your acquaintances making destructive choices that completely blows your mind, what can you do? When love, life and loss come at you hard, where do you turn?

Writing has got to be the best kind of therapy. It's an outlet for whatever issues you face. As I experience the world around me first hand and through the lives of my friends, family, as well as strangers, I can express myself by writing. I can be anyone, I can refute anything, and I can do the inconceivable. With so many words in just the English language alone, I can make a difference and reach the world.

Through the Faithwriter's website, I've been able to provide encouragement to those in need. I've been able to give hope to those who are afraid to take a chance on love. Through writing on this website I've tried to gently persuade against, or chastise if you will, those who foolishly succumb to infidelity, abuse, and selfishness. I've been a poet, storyteller, counselor, and teacher. Most importantly, I've been able to use my writing as a means to help others like myself who are struggling to stay on the straight and narrow path that God has placed us on. I have written words in hope that I can help to win souls for Christ.

Whether it's fact or fiction, everyone has a story. Spoken or written, words can be powerful. They can be used to tear down or build up? With my humble efforts I have chosen to try to uplift others. When I looked up the definition of the word "word" in the Encarta Dictionary online, one in particular jumped out at me:

A meaningful sound or combination of sounds that is a unit of language or its representation in a text.

The word meaningful, or significant, made this definition stand out. Use your words, written or verbal, to make a significant and positive difference in someone's life, even your own.
