What's Your Sign?

by Nancy Quinn
1/29/2008 / Devotionals

Have you ever thought of comparing your life to road signs? Do you skid through stop signs, hoping to get by without being caught? Or are you cautious, stopping totally when you see that yield sign? There are road signs everywhere we look, telling us what to do. Everyone knows what to do when they see those signs because we're all taught the same thing when we take our driver's training courses.

Stop Sign: Do you heed the warning to stop at the crossroads and to look both ways? We all have choices that come across our path every day. A stop sign reminds me that I need to take the time to carefully choose which path God wants me to take.
Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him." (The Message)

Yield Sign: This sign reminds me to yield to Jesus. Slowing down and hearing the Lord's voice, and WAITING for His instructions is sometimes hard to do when my life gets hectic. I need to remember to be cautious in life and not just do things quickly without thinking.
I Chronicles 6:11 "Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always."
(The Message)

Merge Sign: Are you merging and sharing the road unselfishly with others? This sign reminds me to be aware of who is around me. Who needs an encouraging word from me today to lift their spirits?
Mark 22:37-39 ..."Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." (NIV)

Deer Crossing Sign: This sign always makes me watch out for the unexpected. God allows us to be tested sometimes in unexpected ways. Is someone criticizing or gossiping about me? What's my reaction, forgiveness or thoughts of how to get back at them?
Luke 6:35 "But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." (The Message)

So how about you? Are you watching the road signs? Too bad God doesn't give us a manual for life like the manual we study for driver's training. Life can be sometimes so confusing with all those choices. But wait, He did! The Bible is our life's manual. All the answers to our questions are in there! Have you read it lately?

(If you don't have a bible, call your local Bible-teaching church in your town and they'd be happy to help you find one!)

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
