READY OR NOT, HERE I COME!!!

by Teresa Altman
3/03/2008 / Devotionals

"Ready or not, here I come!!!!"

Whenever I hear those words, I smile and remember when my own children were young and begged to play Hide-&-Seek with me. "You hide, Mama, and we will find you", they would anxiously coax me. Most of the time, I would select a "Secret Place" where I knew I could be found easily. Other times, I would test their perseverance and skill by making it a little more difficult.

Ultimately, I always wanted them to find me wherever I was hiding. Why, you ask? Like most loving parents, the object in playing the game was never to win, but to be found. I received such pleasure in seeing the exuberant joy on their face each time they found me. "You're it, you're it!" they exclaimed.

In my Christian walk, I have discovered that our Father in Heaven is much like the parent that finds pleasure in being found during a game of Hide-&-Seek. There are so many things God desires for us to know, things that are only found within the depths of an intimate relationship ("Secret Place") with Him. His will and promise is that if we seek that intimacy, we will find it (Matthew 7:7; James 4:8a).

With each new discovery of our Father's nature or character, my relationship with Him becomes stronger and more intimate; honing my spiritual fruits. Just like a pearl within the depths of an oyster, our treasure and delight is found within the depths of knowing Him.

God receives glory and pleasure whenever we choose to seek Him. And just like the parent playing Hide-&-Seek, God can easily be found in the "Secret Place", longing to hear His children say...

"Ready or not, Lord, here I come!"

"Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you." Matthew 7:7 (NAS)
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." James 4:8a (NAS)

PRAYER:
Thank you, Abba Father, for the pleasures I find in knowing You. Open my heart with the desire to seek a deeper intimacy only found in You. Amen.
