My Guinea Pig, Dressed to Impress

Thank goodness my guinea pig Fluffy was a patient childhood pet for me. Not content to just dress up my dolls, I also enjoyed making my dog and poor little Fluffy look fashionable too. The safe pet from the fashion shows was my hamster since none of my doll clothes would fit her! My childhood photo album reveals a snapshot of Fluffy wearing a white doll dress with a tuft of hair sticking straight up from her head secured with a blue plastic barrette.

Just like my guinea pig's spiffy outfit that day, it reminds me how I dress; a suit to look professional at work, a pair of jeans and T-shirt to look casual as we shop for groceries, and nice clothes I feel would be appropriate for church. No matter what clothes we wear to portray our feelings and personality, the Lord looks past all that and sees our heart. Some people may try to "dress to impress"; but while the name brands may impress others, it's not fooling God. It's better to spend more time preparing our inward selves each morning with prayer and Bible study so our inner beauty will shine bright throughout the day. Our inward beauty is more important to the Lord, so we should have a desire to be beautiful in the Lord's eyes, and not be excessively worried about our outward appearance. Despite what you wear each day, be assured that you are beautiful and very precious to God!

Luke 12:35 "Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning."

I Peter 3:3-5a "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful."
