Doggy Death Row

by Nancy Quinn
3/23/2008 / Devotionals

The cold steel cages stated only the basic information of each occupant. We could feel there were sad stories behind their pleading brown eyes as we slowly passed each dog's cage. The final cage advertised that this resident only had a week to live. He was very dirty and scraggly with matted hair, and I quickly made my choice. Included with his information on the cage was his name. We agreed that he did indeed look like a "Bear", so he kept his name. They let us get to know our newest family member in a small room where his wagging tail and his doggy kisses showed his thanks to us in grateful adoration. With a long bath and lots of brushing, he turned into a handsome dog!

Just like we rescued Bear, it reminds me that the Lord has rescued me too. My soul was on "death row" as well, until I invited the Lord Jesus to be my Savior. And just like Bear's bath turned him into a new dog, my baptism washed away my sins and made me a new person too. The Lord's compassion for us knows no bounds and I'll be eternally grateful that he called me out of the cage I had formed for myself out of sin. And the Lord promises me that I now have eternal life with him. I look forward to spending the rest of my days in grateful adoration of the Lord and will serve him faithfully, all the days of my life!

John 10:28 "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand."

If you don't know the Lord Jesus yet, you can just pray the below prayer, and Jesus will come into your heart to be your Savior. But He's waiting for you to invite Him in; do you hear him knocking on the door to your heart?

Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen.

If you prayed the above prayer, then you are now a Christian and the angels are cheering in heaven! Just call your local Bible-teaching church and they will help you grow in your newfound faith, and welcome to the family of God! You are greatly loved and very special to God!

**And if you have room in your heart for a furry addition to your family, I encourage you to visit the ASPCA. There are many pets that desperately need a loving home like yours!

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
