Who do people say I AM?

by Jaisam Daniel
3/31/2008 / Christian Apologetics

In the olden days when ever the new King comes to the Royal court, he would ask questions to know what people of his country think about him and how he rules the kingdom, this is to get a better idea of what people think and to correct all misconceptions about him. By this he establishes trust and mutual love with the people.

One day Jesus was crossing through a city called "Caesarea Philippi", it is a cosmopolitan city like today they had different cultures and they always want to maintain the status quo and living a politically correct life style. Here Jesus asked an interesting question to his disciples "Who do people say I am? "

His disciples answered, "Some say you are a Messenger from God", "Some say you are a great teacher", "He is a good man" so the list was going on. Then Jesus said ok, tell me "Who do you say I am?" by this question our Lord want to put a full stop for all the confusions they have on him, because he knew it will cost their eternal Life. Today I thought of asking you the same question that Jesus asked, "Whom do you think Jesus is?"

Jesus never minced words about who he is and why he came to the world, what will he do for us when we put our trust on him. The word of God says he used seven unique words starting "I AM".

1) Bread of Life: Jesus said that I am the bread of Life who gives eternal Life.

"Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry" John 6:35
"For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40

2) Light of the World: Jesus said I am the Light of the world

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

3) Gate to Heaven: Jesus said I am the Gate

"Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep" John 10:7

"I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" John 10:9,10

4) Good Shepherd: Jesus said I am the Good Shepherd and he gave his life for us in the cross.

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" John 10:11

5) Resurrection and Life: Jesus said I am the Resurrection and Life.

"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies" John 11:25

6) Way, Truth, Life: Jesus said I am the Way, Truth and Life

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me." John 14:6

7) True Vine: Jesus said I am the True Vine

"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser." John 15:1

These are the words, which stirred my heart to take a stand either to believe or reject him. My dear friends if you read these words sincerely I am sure it would have ruffled some feathers. With deep love I ask do not Patronize Jesus as a Moral Teacher, because he has not minced his words.

Well known author C.S. Lewis who wrote the Book series of Chronicle of Narnia (On 2005 there was a movie Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, Witch, The wardrobe). He was agnostic before accepting Jesus as his personal Saviour he wrote in his book after experiencing Jesus as.

""A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic--on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg--or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us" C.S.Lewis

Whom do you say who Jesus is? Yes he is our Bread of Life.

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for coming in to the world as the Bread of Life showing us the Light for our way opening the Gates of heaven. I take you as my Good Shepherd thank you for giving your life for us in the cross and the promise for new life Resurrection the blessed hope. Thank you for revealing your truth with your Living words. I will like to be as a branch on you the true vine and give fruits of righteousness and love for your Glory.

Amen
