Before Your Honor

by Patricia Charlton
3/31/2008 / Christian Living

If there is one thing that this modern society understands it is this: Me! Me! And Me! We scrape, trade, and work our way into debt just to prove to our neighbors, family, and friends that we demand attention. However, all this attention getting brings more devastating results. Where did all this madness begin?

Our media, institutions, and even some parents instruct their children about high and lofty positions. The human tendency to exalt those achieving great things cloaks a truth about our greatness. The brightest and the best are not the greatest achievers in the spiritual world. The door to spiritual greatness hinges on one truth HUMILITY.

The elusive nature of spiritual pride hinders the work of the Holy Spirit by veiling our view from future kingdom projects. God detests pride, in any form. (Proverbs 6: 17) Because of Adam and Eve's disobedience, mankind inherited a prideful nature. Only God can make you and me better than what we are. If pride is our enemy, how do you and I receive honor?

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time" (I Peter 5: 6) That is our problem, we fail to understand or hear the divine instruction. For thousands of years God whispered about humanities downfall pride. What is humanities response silence and disobedience? Even a promise falls on deaf ears.

Time to listen up, people! Don't miss the promise! "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." ( II Chronicles 7: 14 NKJV) What is the first thing God asks you and I humble yourselves? The pressure of sin rests on our unwillness to lower ourselves before Christ. What do you and I not understand about God's promise? Nothing!

The simple truth is: "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18: 4) The lease of us is considered the greatest in the eyes of the Lord. That before honor comes humility. Are you ready for a challenge? Then ask the Lord to humble you and watch the fireworks begin.
