Are you Thirsty?

My sister and I had the privilege of getting "summer pets" each year. My dad was a veterinarian in a small town in Iowa and we would get to take care of interesting pets like chickens, ducks and lambs for the summer and then return them to the farmer before school started again.

One summer we got to take care of ducks. They were by far our messiest pets, but their cute antics made us laugh. Their beaks would clatter in the water pan as they gathered as much water as they could in their beaks, and then they would stretch their necks up high and swallow the gathered water in tiny gulps.

Their enthusiastic technique for drinking water reminds me of another kind of thirst. I want to have a thirst for the Lord, and I want my actions to give others a thirst for the Lord too! I try to remember that all the people who cross my path every day may be divine appointments from the Lord so I try to be friendly and kind and share the love of Christ to everyone.

Henry Stanley was a journalist and said this of missionary David Livingstone in Central Africa: "If I had been with him any longer, I would have been compelled to be a Christian, and he never spoke to me about it at all."

That's both exciting and sobering for me to think that others may be compelled to become a Christian by just my actions. Do your actions compel people to become a Christian? Do you make others thirsty for the Living Water?

I John 3:18 "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."

2 Timothy 2:4 "I can't impress this on you too strongly. God is looking over your shoulder. Christ himself is the Judge, with the final say on everyone, living and dead. He is about to break into the open with his rule, so proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn, and urge your people. Don't ever quit. Just keep it simple." (The Message)
